This week was not a good week for #1's. Like the University of Kentucky Wildcats the BGP Girls #1 Butler Bearettes went down to #3 Male. Butler was led by Fontasia Jefferies (St Louis signee) with 18, and Jaelynn Penn (Indiana signee) with 15. Butler rebounded with a 69-23 win over Central.

 

#2 Mercer County took on out of state powerhouse Hamilton Heights TN who has 7/8 Division 1 kids that make up basically a prep school. Mercer dropped that game 76-65. Mercer County was led by UL commit Seygan Robins with 16 pts and SEMO commit Lexy Lake with 15 points.

 

 

Male, like previously stated, took down #1 Butler. This was a war from the start to finish. Male was led by 2018 guard Emilia Sexton with 20. Males’ second game of the week was another thriller over #10 Bullitt East in a game that Bullitt East led by 10 at the half, but prevailed 81-78.

 

 

Sacred Heart the #4 team took on the #16 Birds from Highlands in both team’s season opener. Sacred Heart started 1-0 after the dust cleared, 73-54. 2018 KiKi Samsel led the way for Sacred Heart with 18 while 2018 Grace Berger (Indiana commit) chipped in 15. Sacred Heart then easily took down Seneca 89-27 for the week one sweep.

 

 

#5 Simon Kenton opened with Ryle on Thursday night with an impressive 70-40 victory. Simon Kenton was led by 2018 Ally Niece with 18. Simon Kenton second game of the week came Saturday against Illinois powerhouse Montini Catholic. Simon Kenton fell to Montini Catholic 76-46. Ally Niece again led the way with 14 points.

#6 Mercy dropped game one of the week to #20 Eastern 66-56. Game two of the week so Mercy beat Anderson County 75-35. In the trifecta, Mercy faced off against the same opponent as Mercer County Saturday at the Hoops for Harvest Shootout at Dixie Heights, Hamilton Heights, TN and fell 78-41.

 

 

#7 Murray got the season started right with a drubbing of Dresden TN 71-38. Murray was led by 2018 Macey Turley with 19 points. Today Murray got their first test in #11 Franklin County. Murray came out on top in an impressive win 70-60. Again, Macey Turley led the way with 21 points and 2018 Alexis Burpo chipped in 19.

 

 

#8 Mason County started off with a win Saturday over Dixie Heights at the Hoops for Harvest Shootout by a score of 70-48. Mason was led by Jordan Frodge and Briana McNutt each with 13 points. Bellarmine signee Whitney O’Mara chipped in 12.

 

 

#9 DuPont Manual opened with a win over Waggener 94-7. They followed this up wins over Ballard 68-21, and a 52-38 win over Covington Holy Cross at the Lexus Shootout Classic. 2018 Jaela Johnson led Manual with 26 points over Holy Cross.

 

 

#10 Bullitt East starts the season with three games in week one. On Tuesday, they faced Presentation and came away with a 69-35 win. UL signee Lindsey Duvall led the way with 21 points. Friday night they faced #3 Male and lost in a shootout 81-78. Again 2017 Lindsey Duvall led the way with 22 points for the Lady Chargers. The third and final game of the week saw Bullitt East take down the Southwestern Lady Warriors 71-52. Consistent was Lindsey Duvall leading the way with 29 points. Duvall is showing why Coach Jeff Walz is going to love this kid. Can flat shoot the ball.

 

 

Overall a great opening week for the ladies. Look forward to next week!
