Owsley County 2016/2017

Featured Replies

Basketball season for 2016/2017 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Owsley County? Remember, please be constructive.

Owsley County has a new coach this season. Former Owls player Gary Bowling takes over a very young and inexperienced team that has to replace three starters from a team that finished 7-20 last year. Bowling first big task is to find a replacement for last year's leading scorer and floor general Chase Combs.

Junior Tyler Noe and senior Chris Ratliff will try to fill the void. James Barrett, Mike Anderson, Jesse Dean and Patrick Davis will be the front court, with Davis being the tallest at 6'3. Most of the subs will be middle school and freshmen.

It won't be easy by no means for the new coach but he says he's ready for the challenge and has a great group of young men to work with. Bowling was a guard for the Owls from 1982-84 and played on one of the best teams in Owls' history, the 1983 team that finished runner up in the region and ended with a 28-5 record. He went on to play for Lees College in Jackson and later was a walk-on at Morehead State, so he's been around the game a long time and has the knowledge and background to get the most out of his team.
