groinpull Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Game ended with about 13 minutes remaining. HC staff basically conceded the match before it was started by packing 8 guys (plus keeper) in the box in the first half with apparently instructions never to leave and/or clear out. Even on odd occasions when HC could clear the ball into the CCH end, the HC defenders would stay put. Second half they were allowed to play a bit more and it was more interesting for both sides I think.
wayoffsides Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Apparently the "defensive" strategy didn't work...10-0...
that's what she said Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 I actually think this game could help CCH moving forward. The way Holy Cross packed 8+ in the box was the perfect practice run for what they may see more of in the coming games. CCH did a nice job of being patient and breaking down the HC defense. 10-0 with 13 minutes still on the clock and CCH went deep into their bench early in both halves, all of the recent call ups got a lot of quality minutes. And unlike what some on bgps have indicated (outcome may have been different if HC starting keeper played) Hobbs has a lot of experience playing keeper and played very well last night.
shutout Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 (edited) It seems to me that HC has been fortunate to ever get out of that district. Seems like they have gotten by just being better than the other bad teams. Now that those teams are better what can we expect? I saw this match against Covington Catholic and was boggled by the decision to pack the box. When you do this you invite a better team to slam the ball down your throat, and that's what happened. From what I saw of the game there seemed to be a lack of talent at Holy Cross. Not a knock in the kids but there was no hope from the first whistle. Cov Cath looked very confident and comfortable, I'm lead to believe the off season play of their players has something to do with this? Anyway Can't wait to see the match up Thursday between beechwood and cov Cath. Hopefully it goes 90mins Edited October 12, 2016 by shutout Spelling
gameplayedright Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Holy Cross is just down a bit it happens, look around. They have had good teams in the past and I'm sure they will again. Over all I think its more a reflection of the improved level of play in the 35th District. Beechwood and Holmes have had very successful seasons. Beechwood is 9-9-3 and have earned their first regional appearance. Holmes went 11-6-2, I'm not sure what they loose to graduation but I would expect them to contend for a regional spot next season. Boys soccer is on the wise in the 35th District.

It would indicate that the two teams played 80 minutes of regulation, followed by two five minute overtime periods and was heading to PKs.
