District Nightmare

Featured Replies

If Holy Cross wins against Holmes what do you think will happen who will play who? It will be a three way tie between Holy Cross, Holmes, and Beechwood.

Depends on district tie breaker. Every district has a their own policy on how to handle ties. It is agreed upon by all AD's.

Holmes and Beechwood will have also played Covington Latin. Holmes beat CL, Beechwood yet to play. HC didn't schedule CL so if it goes by points, even if HC beats Holmes, Holmes will have 6 points to HC's 3. Even if CL beats Beechwood and HC beats Holmes, BW would have 3 points to HC's 3 but BW would have won the head-to-head. No District Seeding plan on the KHSAA site for the district, but I would think this is how it would work. Who knows?

Holmes v Beechwood seems to be the only competitive district game to get in the region. Maybe Villa v Dixie. Looks like the region will be CCH, HHS,NCC,St Henry, Ryle, Cooper,Villa, and winner of Beechwood and Holmes.

With points CCH has 0... do they get the 5 seed!?!?!?! Ha

The CL game was a win for HC because their coach forfeited the game.

Covlat and Holy cross never seemed to even be scheduled according to their schedules!

Covcath is automatically the 1 seed.

But I think it will be interesting to see how things turn out! If they go to KHSAA rules it'll be a coin flip between the three teams to determine the seeding! I would love to see a rematch of Holmes/Beechwood

The Latin-Beechwood game might NOT matter since it is scheduled one day TOO LATE:

http://khsaa.org/handbook/competitionrules/socompetitionrules.pdf

Page 2, Right Column

"g) If win-loss records are used for seeding, the records used shall be the records as of midnight WEDNESDAY prior to the Monday of the week of the district tournament."

(Note: Latin's last district game is THURSDAY and the district starts next week)

Also:

"h) Seeded games unable to be played for any reason (with the exception of verified forfeited contests) prior to the published deadline (WEDNESDAY) for seeded games shall be recorded as a win and a loss for both teams in computing seeded position"

(Note: So the Latin-Beechwood game could go down as a WIN and a LOSS for BOTH teams since they were NOT played before the published deadline (Wednesday).

Also need to find out what gives with the Latin-Cross game.

- Does Cross get a forfeit win?

- Or do BOTH teams get a win-loss combo (like the potential Beechwood-Latin scenario for playing a game too late)

Pretty sure if you don't play a district game, you are automatically seeded last, not first.

That's what you would think, but that's now how it is in the 35th district. Covcath always gets the 1 seed!
