The game was tied after the overtime period and was decided by penalty kicks. Congratulations to both teams for playing hard in the hot weather, and for showing good sportsmanship.

Someone I ran into said the official in the center was terrible. He seem to be real chummy with the Brossart Coach. Also, it was mentioned that Brossart was up to their old ways of flopping with no contact and getting a call. They said this game was filmed, if that is the case I would like to see the video.

Gosh, I wonder if the video shows evidence that Brossart made more PK's than Campbell.

Since there is NO guarantee when a goal will be scored in OT, logically speaking the game could go on for an additional 30-60-90 mintues or much longer before a goal is eventually scored, please give your suggestion on how to end such game that has every potential to go on this long into OT?

 

The people that run FIFA that are paid huge amounts of money and have years and years of experience and knowledge favor ending games by PKs after a predetermined OT period. Maybe just maybe because no one has yet come up with a better solution.

I agree that after teams play for 80 mins and it's scoreless or tied, that playing more OT time would most likely end in the tied situation. I'm fine with the PK's...one suggestion could be just to pull the goalies. I'd like to see what two 5-min periods without goalies would yield...

Yes but then you have to figure out how, if at all, to count the goals for stats as that hardly seems fair to count them as regular goals.

Attacker gets 1 shot and ____ seconds to take the shot.

Attacker and goalie allowed to move on the whistle blow.

 

Not sure when it changed, but that's the way it was "back in the day".

The shootout, I believe, was one of the "fixes" the NASL tried (along with moving off-sides to the 35 yard line). Another approach looked at involved taking one field player off from each team for every 5 minutes of OT that the game stayed tied. Yet another was after overtime giving the match to the team that had more corners. If more corners correlates with more offense/attack, that rewards the team that attacked more. All interesting, I guess. Best option... just close it out during regulation.
