KHSAA Stat Leaders 8-25

Boys’ Soccer stats:

Do Lemus, Nolasco, or DeLaCruz for Holmes play high level club around the area? I know their stats were inflated some by early opponents, but none of the names sound familiar, so I was wondering if they are club players as well?

Thanks. @Yellow Card

Kerry played on U17 KHA Blue last year, but the couple times I saw the KHA team play he wasn't there -- I don't know if he was hurt or had conflicts or what. Last I knew, Lemus played for a KHA Central or East team, but that was a year ago. Holmes' coach has done a great job keeping kids engaged at Holmes.

I posted this on the girls side. And the average strength of schedule of the 15 teams on the leader board is a 500. As comparison the average strength of schedule of the current top 15 ranked team is 88.2.

Without knowing the level of play each player has played against, how many individual goals were scored in comparison to how many goals her team scored in each particular game, the competitiveness of each game, etc, etc, how can anyone evaluate or compare one player from team A to a player on team B, team C, etc?

As an example, in a recent season there was a player (will not name names or team name) that was amongst the leading goal scorers in NKY. Their team played a rather weak schedule and if you looked closer you would discover they scored a large percentage of their goals in very one sided contests. One example this player had 5 goals when their team won 8-0 in two different games. Taking another closer look and this player went scoreless in a number of games against good teams. I'm not knocking any of the leaders, its not their decision which teams are on their schedule. But to be fair, evaluating stats and leaders requires an in depth look at who they played against, when and at what situations did a majority of their goals, assist, etc happen.

Look for Caleb Wilson to show up once Franklin-Simpson starts reporting stats. He scored 27 goals his freshman year and 63 goals his sophomore year (last year). Region 4 referees and ADs both voted Caleb the Region 4 player of the year last year (runners up were Aviles and Deversevich). People will knock on the quality of competition he faces, but if you've seen him play he's a treat.

As the season wears on, the most important category to view will be the team defense/goals allowed. Teams that play a quality schedule and have a good team defense will be there at the end of the year.

These teams with the gaudy goal scoring players will probably be nowhere to be found.

100% agree. The 2015 KY state champs led the team goals against average category. Among individual stats leaders you'll also find some top level kids playing on good teams (last year including Wirth, Kidwell, Fischer and others). Individual assist leaders IMO probably correlate better to teams that may do well for obvious reasons.

If I recall, Henry Clay didn't report stats but their goals against average was right there with CCH.
