Lots of parity at the top in NKY this fall. St Henry, CovCath, Highlands, Cooper and Ryle all look to have good sides. Not sure about the next 5.

I heard Nico Ross moved and will be at Ryle rather than Cooper this fall. Nice pick up for Ryle and Cooper loses a key attacking player who would have helped Snow with options and some combination play.

I heard Campbell will be very good as well. Calvary is young but very talented - another soccer season at hand so will be a lot of fun!

My sources say St Henry is senior heavy and should be the team to beat. Ryle should contend if they can find the back of the net. CCH is inexperienced in July, by October they could be a much improved team. Don't know much about Highlands, word is NCC and Connor are down. Boone and Cooper???

I'll go top 5 (9th region teams only) as of July 23. I fully expect this to change come October.

1. St Henry

2. Ryle

3. CCH

4.Highlands

5. Cooper

CCH will be pretty young. I see them starting 3 or maybe 4 seniors and the rest juniors and possibly one of the 2 sophomores that were kept on the varsity final roster. My guess is both sophs will see significant playing time. This year's squad reminds me of the 2014 team.

Tryouts concluded, team rosters announced? Seems early, I remember CCH tryouts always lasting 2 weeks. If true I would agree, " both sophs will see significant playing time." IMO makes little sense to put any sophomore on ANY varsity sports team to then sit them on the end of the bench. Playing sophomores that can hold their own and contribute quality minutes on the varsity team helps a program stay strong year after year.

This makes Ryle the favorite in 2018. That is a lot of talent in one class if this is the same Nico I am thinking of.

I'm not sure there has been a formal announcement and there is technically a day left in tryouts tomorrow but players have been informed where they have been assigned. Normally they do last 2 weeks but the diocese extended the dead period by a week this year so I'm guessing that resulted in shorter tryouts. My guess is that by the end of the season CCH is starting 8 juniors/sophomores but still capable of winning the region. Midfield is the biggest question mark in my opinion.

I think it was Ryle... maybe St. Henry. Yes Nico is very composed on the ball, if it's true it's a loss for Cooper and an immediate gain for whoever picked him up. His oder brother Zane was a very talented player with lots of potential too.

Every team has question marks in July. CCH's lack of varsity experience may cause them to answer more questions then some programs. I'll be watching the back four, how this group plays will be a big factor. It takes time to build consistency across the back line, add in a new keeper, this is an area to watch. Last yr's back line and keeper were all seniors and they played a huge role in that team's success.

A good coaching staff uses the first half or so of the season to find these answers and builds from there to peak in mid Oct to Nov 5. groinpull's prediction of 8 juniors/sophomores will be starting by the end of the season is still capable of wining the region is interesting, and says something about the strength of the program heading into the 2017 season. But lets not get ahead of ourselves, like last season the 9th region will again prove to be tough one to get out of this season.

Ranking isn't necessarily my question.......and at the risk of possibly hijacking this....although they are related.........

Which NKY teams would you schedule to prepare your team to play down state? Where is the "value added" line drawn?

You have to schedule the big schools but you are going to see Calvary make some noise this year- very young but club talent across all positions- doesn't normally work out like this but will be fun watch- heavily waited to freshman, soph and some juniors but will be interesting how they develop
