Woman kills 4 children in Memphis

Featured Replies

I can not call her a mother as headlines have, because no mother would do such a thing. Cut the throats of her 4 children and went outside with a knife looking for the little boy that got away. I DO NOT want to see her get the death penalty, I want her to spend as many days as possible locked away. I want her to go to sleep each night and be horrified by the memories of those precious children. If it was up to me their photos would cover every inch of what ever box she ends up calling home for the rest of her life.

It will be interesting to hear what her motive is...well sickening may be more accurate than interesting.

The Latest: Ex mother-in-law: Suspect was 'sweet young lady'

Authorities in Tennessee say the mother of four children found fatally stabbed has been charged with first-degree murder.

Shanynthia Gardner of Memphis faces four counts of first degree murder while committing aggravated child neglect; four counts of first degree murder while committing aggravated child abuse; four counts of aggravated child neglect or endangerment; and four counts of aggravated child abuse.

Shelby County Sheriff Bill Oldham says the victims were a 4-year-old boy; a 3-year-old girl; a 2-year-old girl; and a 6-month-old girl.

A 7-year-old boy escaped the attack. All five children were Gardner's.

Deputies were called to an apartment complex in unincorporated Shelby County shortly before 1 p.m. Friday. They took Gardner into custody after finding the children's bodies.

I think we'll find this another incidence of mental health issues. And I'm interested in hearing about her life up to this point. With a 6 month old, post part psychosis is a very real possibility. As someone who had a horrible bout of PPD with my first, I am always so thankful I had family who intervened and forced me to see a doctor for it. And for doctors who took great care with my 2nd pregnancy to watch for those signs during and after.

Naturally this is at play...in the past when some cases like this have come out the motive has been to get rid of kids to start new life with a new boyfriend/husband or say they are just tired or they didn't see anyway to give the kids a better life. I'm sure she will have a justification of some sort, even though it will not make sense to the rest of us.

The sad thing about PPD is that she could have been suffering for years and no one noticed. With 4 children under 5, it is a very real possibility it just compounded and compounded until she sank into psychosis. The mind is such a horrible weapon against itself sometimes.

And it didn't even take a gun to kill those poor innocent kids.

Almost as many as the guy killed in Charleston. 9

Just proves if you want to kill it don't take a gun.
