Somerset High School's Brynlee Bigelow signed to play Softball at the University of Kentucky last week. Brynlee was a 3 sport star at Somerset (Soccer, Basketball, Softball) and Countywide Female Athlete of the year.

Hard work equals big dreams coming true and the two met Tuesday afternoon in the “Hall of Fame Room” at Somerset High School. Multi-sport star Brynlee Bigelow will be continuing her Fast Pitch Softball career wearing the “Big Blue” of the University of Kentucky.

 

The University of Kentucky first expressed an interest in the future Wildcat in mid February by contacting athletic director Bob Tucker. Bob feels Brynlee will have a successful transition into the world of big time S.E.C. softball, “I feel like Brynlee is as fine an all around athlete that we had here at Somerset in my 40 years. The future looks bright because I think she will finally focus on one sport. I believe she can compete at the Division 1 level when she does. There is no don’t in my mind she will contribute there when she puts her mind to it.”

 

Naturally a difficult decision for the family, one of the more convincing conversations was with former Wildcat Cameron Mills. After Mills laid out his experiences at Kentucky the Bigelow family decided the multi million dollar facility, the playing in front of thousands, the travel, the chance to test her skills against the very best was too great an opportunity to pass.

 

Coach David Dorsey has coached Brynlee for five years, “She has been a super star for us since the 8th grade. In my mind Kentucky is not only getting a 5 star player but they are getting a super student and a quality person and they will benefit from that. I think she has been a catcher from birth. She was born with a mask on. Whatever role they put her in she will succeed for them.”
