In the Class A girls’ meet on Saturday, St. Henry senior Kayla Riegler was a member of the 4 x 800 and 4 x 400 relay teams that placed first to earn gold medals. In between those two relays, Riegler took second place in the 800 run and ran on the St. Henry 4 x 200 relay team and placed fifth.

Reichert and Riegler played a big part in each of their team’s success. Highlands placed second in the Class AA standings and St. Henry was runner-up in Class A.

The other individual state champions from Northern Kentucky were St. Henry junior Kim Spritzky in the Class A girls’ pole vault, Newport Central Catholic junior Olivia Schalk in the Class A girls’ 400 dash and Ryle senior Matt Froschauer in the Class AAA boys’ 110 hurdles.

Froschauer was the only local athlete who won an event in the Class AAA state meet. He also placed fourth in the 300 hurdles to score all 15 of his team’s points.

Northern Kentucky runners won three of the four relay events in the Class A boys’ state meets. The gold medals went to St. Henry in the 4 x 800, Brossart in the 4 x 400 and Walton-Verona in the 4 x 200. Murray won the 4 x 100 relay with Walton-Verona placing second.
