Ryle 5 Boone County 1

Unofficial stats and observations:

Ziegelmeyer of Ryle outduels Purnell(s?) of Boone Co., as both pitchers went the distance in a windy but rare perfect afternoon for baseball. Ryle scored the only 3 runs needed in the bottom of 3rd on classic small-ball. Hit batter, infield single, sacrifice bunt to move runners up, short sacrifice flyout down the right field line to score 1, infield single and then steal of second, and then two run RBI single to right center. Three runs on three hits with only one leaving infield. (This is from the memory of a 70 year old, so please forgive any inaccuracies).

Boone scored their only run in the 5th on two hit batters, sacrifice bunt to move runners up, then an infield dribbler FC with a close play safecall at the plate. Well played by courtesy runner on a great slide. Ryle goes on to score in both 5th and 6th for final 5-1 victory.

Sorry no scorebook access so I can't give stats, nor do I promise the above is totally accurate. But, it is close enough to give my friends a reasonable gist of the games flow.

Great game, Great duel by two Morehead commits. Boone has had issues with scoring runs and defense mishaps the whole season and today was no different.

Two errors at short and the drop ball in Rf extended a couple of Ryle's innings resulting in runs for Ryle. Congrats to Ryle on a great season and good luck on their journey. Congrats to Purnell on one heck of a career at Boone. He has been fun to watch.

Congrats to Ryle !!! Shoutout to Boone's 11 seniors. What a great bunch of kids. You will be greatly missed !!! Hope the best for wherever life takes you. It is always hard watching these games, knowing it is probably the last game for most of the seniors. Go Rebels !!!!!

Morehead is getting two nice pitchers. I was surprised when I heard Ryle tallied 5 off of Purnell and then I saw the "small ball" notes. Baseball.

Per Rick Broering Ziggy threw 87 pitches in 7 innings.

Poor defense and poor hitting have plagued Boone all year and yesterday was no different. Congrats to Purnell on a great career at Boone. Congrats and good luck to Ryle moving forward.

Congrats to Ryle! Both of these teams would have been capable of a decent run in regionals.

Disagree. Boone is under .500 for a reason. Top two teams in 33rd that should have advanced did so.

My memory says runs 4 and 5 could be attributed to errors. After four defensive jewels by Boone's 3rd baseman he throws a possible double play grounder wide of second baseman into right field. Shortsop makes a routine groundball error, and center fielder attempts to catch windblown popfly that was the right fielder's ball all the way. All three of these errors contributed, although in two different innings.

However, my memory says Ryle's first three runs were all earned. No scorebook access, just using memory, and it's not always 100%.

I have to agree with changeup, the top two teams in the 33rd have advanced. When your around or under .500 there's usually a reason. In the last 10 years I'd say this was one of the weakest Boone teams that I've seen.
