Conner High School hosted the Boone County Championships last night (May 2).

 

Participants included all public high school teams in Boone County: Boone County, Cooper, Conner, Ryle, and Walton-Verona.

 

Boys champion was Boone County High School! Congratulations to the men of Boone County HS.

 

Going from memory I think the order of team finish was Boone County, Ryle, Conner, Cooper, then Walton-Verona. Of course, my memory ain't so good so feel free to correct me.

 

I am not sure of the result for the women. Someone please add this.

 

It came down to the final relay, the 4x400 to decide the victor. Boone County had a 2 point lead over Ryle and this meant that the Boone County relay team had to at least beat Ryle to get the victory. Boone County got out to a fast start and had a sizable lead going into the final lap. However, the runner for the anchor leg by Cooper was phenomenal and made up all the ground passing the Boone County runner on the last straight-away to give Cooper High School the victory in the 4x400 race. Boone came in a convincing second. Since they bested Ryle in this event, the overall victory went to the men from Boone County High School.

 

The rest of the track season is going to be a good one as all of these teams will be seeing one another in the month leading up to the state competition, with the exception of Walton-Verona which is in a different division.

Love it when the 4x4 team gets the ball at the end of the game....best race of any meet, but especially when it's all the line. No better team win out there
