April 27, 201610 yr I've seen the replay a dozen times and NOBODY I've watched has yet mentioned that Perez's front foot is WILDLY out of the batters box and on the ground when he bunts the ball. With 2 outs and the Twins up, the game should've been over. Tough call for any of the umpires to make because nobody is in good position. Home plate umpire is closest but focused on a bunch of things and if the chalk is not bright white (and it wasn't) it's tough to see. Is that a call they can look at on replay? I'm guessing no, but it should be.
April 27, 201610 yr jpa, I have not seen it but was the front line of the box well defined? I've got to think not being the 15th inning. You know how each guy gets in the box and scratches around to cover up one line or another. I'll see if I can find a video and take a look.
April 27, 201610 yr I cannot tell if his foot is out of the box on this video at all. There is actually no box left. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/dc-sports-bog/wp/2016/04/25/the-nats-16-inning-win-must-be-seen-to-be-believed/
April 28, 201610 yr I haven't seen a clean look so I can't tell but a few things to consider: 1) if the box is gone, too hard for the ump to make that call 2) as long as a portion of his foot is touching the line when contact is made, it is completely legal.
April 28, 201610 yr I can tell you this a really tough one to get for the HP ump because of watching everything else. You have to see if it's a ball/strike if it's missed. You have to see if there was an offer made. You've got bodies moving sometimes.
