April 11, 201610 yr PBS has a two-night Ken Burns doc on Jackie Robinson. Starts tonight. I heard him on a podcast talking about it. Said he found out a lot of things we "know" about the history of Jackie is in fact myth. Says there is no report of Pee Wee Reese ever walking over to Jackie during a game in Cincinnati and putting him arm around him while Jackie was getting heckled from the Reds fans. Looking forward to this.

April 12, 201610 yr Author I really enjoyed the first episode. I think two is not going to be enough to go into enough detail though. Rachel Robinson is equally responsible for Jackie's success at getting through the struggle of being the first black player. She is very impressive and looks like a million bucks at 93 years old.
April 15, 201610 yr Author Fitting that I finished watching this today on the 69th anniversary of his first game in the Majors. Watch it if you get the chance. Jackie was much more than an athlete. The most interesting part of his life was off the field. Sounds like he knew he was having a heart attack as he rushed down the hall to his wife Rachel (who should have her own documentary) , hugged her, said "I love you," and fell to the floor and died. Today Jackie would be labeled an "instigator" or "race hustler."
