Final, from Morehead. The Lady Devils led throughout and will now face East Carter tomorrow afternoon at 3pm for the 16th Region championship.

Russell jumped out to an early 10-2 lead and maintained a 6-8 point lead for much of the game. Rowan Co. made it a nail biter in the final seconds, but the Lady Devils held on for the win.

 

Russell was led in scoring by sophomore gaurd Madison Darnell with 25 pts and junior forward Maggie Jachimczuk with 21. Freshman gaurd Morgan Berry led Rowan Co. with 26 before fouling out late in the 4th.

Berry's transferring from West Carter really gave a boost to the Lady Viking team.

Russell's girls will make their first 16th Region finals appearance since 2007. They haven't won a title since 1994.

Madison Darnell 25 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists. For Russell that is.

Should be a good game Russell is playing well. Russell and East split in the regular season Russell defeated East 49-41 in early December and East defeated Russell 69-33 last month.
