Region 2 Brackets

Featured Replies

Trigg Co. vs Caldwell Co.

Christian Co. vs Henderson Co.

Webster Co. vs Hopkinsville

Madisonville North Hopkins vs Lyon Co.

I am not familiar with most of the 2nd, but is there even a remote chance that anyone would be in the finals other than CC & Hopkinsville?

Webster County and Madisonville both have a shot at the finals from the lower bracket. Hoptown isn't the same team is has been for the last four years...in fact, hasn't been playing as well the last month of the season as it was earlier.

I agree with broadcaster, they have a shot. Hopkinsville played county in district finals to 5. They cut it to 3 with 4 seconds left but committed an intentional foul which killed any hopes of overtime. But I really think it will be a rematch.

I think Christian County is the clear cut favorite. Hopkinsville is the only team that has been able to keep it close with them because of what I believe to be the rivalry factor, but I can see the potential for a lot of parody with the other 7 teams. The 1st round matchup of Hopkinsville and Webster County will be a good one to watch. I'm calling a lot of upset specials but here's my prediction for the tournament.

1st Round: Trigg over Caldwell by 10 or more, Christian over Henderson by 15 or more, Webster over Hoptown by 3 or less, Madisonville over Lyon with a running clock

Semifinals: Christian over Trigg by 15 or more, Webster over Madisonville by 5 or less

Championship: Christian over Webster by 10 or more

North best Webster and Hoptown beat North, both games earlier in the season. I think both Webster and North have improved since those games and agree with Broadcaster that The Tigers have maybe regressed a little. With that said I still think the balanced scoring of Hopkinsville will prevail ( have to slow Eaves down a little, he had big game earlier) and they come out of lower bracket, meet CC in the final and the Southern Colonels win the region.

I've said all year that hoptown isn't the same without matlock. He won several games for them. Hoptown also didn't get the help from transfers this year that they got the previous two years. So their roster was depleted pretty bad along with losing Matlock.

Matlock is one of the best high school players in region 2 in the last 15 years. He was that dominant. He impacted the game in so many ways. Often times he was a "one man press" playing at the top of their 1-2-2. Without him their press isn't much. He also gobbled up TONS of offensive rebounds for them.

I think Christian County wins each game by 10 plus. Several Christian County folks I know think that their new coach sandbagged in the district title game. Didn't call timeouts, didn't make adjustments etc...

Should be an interesting tournament. Trigg COunty can matchup with Christian County down low with day and acree. but I'm not sure how they will guard ware on the perimeter.

I think it will be a Hoptown/Christian County region 2 final. I also think it will be a very close game. It is very hard to beat a good team 4 times. County is no doubt the better team as they have proven, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least for the Tigers to pull the upset.

@Greenvilleky I agree they lost a big time player in Matlock, and Atilola didn't develop like they had hoped, but they are loaded with talent, they are all just sophomores and freshman. Region 2 will be a three headed monster for the next two or three years.

The 8th has been the three headed monster for years

Well the last four it's been dominated by hoptown. This year it's county, but next year should be really close between the three....a toss up.

The three headed monster in the 8th have won 14 straight region 2 titles and I don't see anyone else for years to come.

I'm guessing there will be an upset in there somewhere, but they definitely seem to have the power.

I believe the upset had the best chance last year with Henderson but Hoptown won a narrow 5 point victory in a very good game. That Colonel team was loaded and those kids had been playing together since beginning of middle school and earlier. Many believe including me that if the Administration had not insisted on a coaching change and kept Starnes, there would have been a 13 year streak instead of 14. As always in life, politics play a roll in everything we do and sometimes innocent people get the worse end of it, in this case a very good group of young basketball players got the shaft.

Folks I know from henderson felt it was robbed from them with the 3 big time transfers hoptown picked up for last season.
