As the season continues to wined down, we’ve seen some good action and we’ve seen games get canceled/postponed/rescheduled due to a huge winter storm that wrecked havoic on Kentucky and it’s sports. The only sports that took place were college hoops.

 

The 16^th region looks to be a 6-team race to see who goes to Rupp Arena to play in the KHSAA State Boys Sweet 16. Those teams consists of; Ashland, Boyd County, Elliott County, Morgan County, Rowan County, West Carter.

 

Ashland (6-2): (0-1 vs. Elliott County), (0-1 vs. Boyd County), (Have yet to play West Carter and Rowan County). (Will not play Morgan County this season)

 

Boyd County (8-2): (0-1 vs. Rowan County and Elliott County), (1-0 vs. West Carter, Ashland), (Will not play Morgan County this season)

 

Elliott County (9-4): (1-0 vs. West Carter, Ashland and Boyd County), (0-1 vs. Rowan County), (0-2 vs. Morgan County)

 

Morgan County (10-2): (1-1 vs. West Carter), (2-0 vs. Elliott County), (Has yet to play Rowan County), (Will not play Ashland or Boyd County this season)

 

Rowan County (8-2): (0-2 vs. West Carter), (1-0 vs. Boyd County and Elliott County), (Have yet to play Ashland and Morgan County)

 

West Carter (12-4): (2-0 vs. Rowan County), (1-1 vs. Morgan County), (0-1 vs. Boyd County and Elliott County). (Have yet to play Ashland)

 

The Morgan County Cougars are the hottest team in the 16^th region right now, as they’ve won 9 straight and 10 of their last 11 games heading into the final week of January/first week of February.

The next couple of weeks should get real interesting in the 16^th region as several of the region contenders will be battling it out.

With the snowstorm last week, it was hard to come up with a good list of rankings since every game in the state was either canceled or rescheduled for another date, so I had to come up with something.

I'd switch Elliott and Rowan since Rowan beat them last week. And I'd move Greenup co up a spot ahead of Lewis Co. Other than that I agree completely. Nice job!

As Bball Legend said I would switch Rowan and Elliot. I think Greenup and Lewis could be ranked 7a and 7b. Lewis is playing better ball than they were to start the season, but Greenup has a good team and a great win over Mason county.

 

I really think anyone in the top 8 could win the region this year, though Morgan and Rowan would be my favorites. Depending on how the draw goes and who's playing their best ball at the time, I really do believe anyone in your top 8 could put together a run and win the region though.
