I think I know what is a sac in baseball. I believe you can only get a sac for a bunt to move a runner or a fly that scores a run. Am I right? Someone tried to tell me you get a sac if a run scores on a groundout or if a runner moves from 2nd to 3rd on a fly. I'm pretty sure I'm right.

You are correct. Although incorrect, I may sometimes give a kid a sac if he moves the runner from 2nd to 3rd on a groundball and that kid eventually scores. Trying to emphasize the importance of small ball.

 

A run scored on a ground out is a fielders choice and if a runner moves from 2nd to 3rd on a fly it's a...well out.

 

 

For the record, I know cshs is coming up with a 1 in 67 billion chance scenario to debunk my theory.:irked:

While it's good and right to move a runner, A batter should not be given a sac for moving a runner to third unless he bunts (giving his at bat up to do so). A fly or ground out moving a runner is not a sac.

If you're talking about my scenario, it's just something I do to reward the kid for doing his job. It's a tough sell to get kids to move runners now a days...real tough.

Thats true on bunts. But that is the MLB rule on sac flys. Most scorers give the sac on a bunt , although there are some batters with the speed that are really trying for a hit.
