Last night was Senior Night at Cooper, although the final score was not what one would hope for, I feel that it was good final home game for the 11 seniors. As numbers allowed, the coaching staff got a little creative with the lineup and was able to start all of the seniors. I also thought it was a nice touch to send them all up as captains before the match.

 

The match started at a pretty frantic pace, there was a lot of back and forth between the two teams for the first 10 minutes. Cooper was able to put a goal on the board first, Josh Bishop was able to run onto a loose ball and hammer home a nice finish, this was the first Varsity goal for Josh, his excitement and celebration was really nice to see.

 

Beechwood was able to get on the board via a PK which was awarded because of handling in the box. Austin Miller had gotten the start in goal for Cooper, he made a nice play on the ball and stopped the initial shot, the crowd went nuts but unfortunately the ball bounced back towards the field of play and the kicker was able to put away the rebound.

 

I did not see the second goal for Beechwood, I was told that there was a ball that was not cleared and the player was able to slot it home before the goalie could get to it. This gave Beechwood a 2-1 lead going into the half.

 

Cooper mixed in some of their starters to begin the second half. In the first minute of the half a ball was played forward to Candia, he had trouble gaining control as it bounce around but was able to poke it in Snow's direction, making good use of his first touch he placed the ball in the side net.

 

Just a few minutes later, Zorn was able to get to a ball in the air and head it toward Cooper's goal. Snow took the ball out of the air just outside of the box and placed a volley in the upper corner, this one is probably worthy of being in the best goals of the year thread.

 

The Jags had now regained the lead at 3-2 just a few minutes into the 2nd half. The seniors worked hard to protect this lead but Beechwood was able to get a ball to Bawibiklian in space and the defender was not able to keep him from getting off a shot that went into the side net, this was also a really nice finish.

 

Cooper continued to fight to pull back ahead but it was not meant to be, there were several Seniors that had chances off of corners, crosses, and free kicks that barely missed; one was off the crossbar. They also did a good job of working together to keep the game tied, several attempts by Beechwood were also turned away.

 

I was proud of how hard the Seniors played last night and feel they did not get a fair result, many times this is the case with soccer. Regardless, the score is not what last night was really about. These boys were given a chance to play the majority of their last home game as a group and they all did a great job of making the most of it, there was no doubt that each one of them left it all on the field.

I have never heard of a coach naming all of his/her seniors captains on Senior night, what a great idea! Hats off to the Cooper coaching staff for thinking of this.

How well did Moses Bawibiklian play for beechwood?

Did someone get a photo of all 11 captains during the captains' pre-game meeting with the referees last night? Would enjoy seeing a photo of this.

The head ref would have none of them all being allowed to "talk", kept it at just one of them. He was also a party-pooper, when it came time to have the chat with the captains, he ran 7 of them off... I guess the official limit is 4.

I think most refs would have seen it for what it was and let it slide but not one who wishes to control things though.

I've seen Moses play a few times. He's got the quickest feet I've seen on a player his age. Always looking to move the ball forward. Quality player.

I was puzzled about his age, listed as a Soph but he played U18 in Club last season.
