Johnson Central 59 Boyd County 12

Featured Replies

Umbrellas out in full force tonight at Johnson Central. This game was never in doubt as JC jumped out to an early 31-0 lead. Matney subbed the 2nd and 3rd string in with some starters throughout the game and let them play a majority of the 3rd and 4th quarter as a unit. In all honesty this game could have been much worse.

In a steady and cold rain, Johnson Central kicker Tyler Pack stood out going 8/8 XP, 1/1 FG (43 yards), and 8/9 on touch backs. Johnson Central continued to throw the ball (which is unusual for them), connecting on a few quick slants and out patterns (routes I have never seen them connect on or even attempt: in the past when they threw it was usually only a deep pattern). In fact, this is the most I have ever seen JC throw the ball thus far through a season and it may come in handy if they are to win a state championship. They seem to be getting better at it, going 4 wide with many sets tonight.

In the first half JC held Boyd County to 41 total yards (unofficial), but the Lions were able to get moving a bit in the 3rd quarter with younger defenders getting much needed minutes.

Good win for the Golden Eagels as the clash between Ashland and JC gets one week closer!

Another interesting stat from this game, 6 different running backs for Johnson Central scored.

Mattney must be a BGP reader or member. It's been said for years that they need to throw the ball more if they want to advance deep in the playoffs. Now out of no where they are doing just that.

Have to think JC is absolutely itching to show what they can do against Ashland and Belfry.

JC wont be tested until those two games and in the Belfry game it wouldnt surprise me if both teams played their younger kids in the 2nd half (regardless of score) in preparation for the playoffs (in an attempt to avoid injury of course).

Both those games should be great ones nonetheless!

Very true. JC does need to develop the passing game to match their superior run attack in order to keep teams honest. It is evident Matney is making a concerned effort to do just that this season. Whats unusual is the passing game is coming along faster than expected as the Golden Eagles are showing more and more sets and connecting on a wider variety of routes.

A passing game is what separates JC from being a perennial monster, IMO. Ashland is a step behind JC in the passing game so far this season, but both teams have a little time to work on preparation for that game. No doubt in my mind it will be a war this year. Two of the top rushing defenses in 4a, against two of the top offensive rushing teams in 4a.

On the other hand there is a great south Warren team that their fans claim to have the best defense in 4a hanging around to see who awaits them in their playoff journey. Should become interesting soon.

Very well said!

HIGHLIGHTS: No. 3 Johnson Central vs. Boyd County

Highlights of the game using the link above. You get to see some of that new passing game and Tyler Pack doing his thing. That 43 yarder (which is on the highlight) would have been good from 56+ tonight. Credit Jamie McCracken, Josh McKinney and the WYMT sports crew for the coverage.

The number 3 by JC's name is a Mountain Top 10 ranking WYMT does for their coverage area (All classes included) if you were wondering.

All highlights came from the first quarter as well!

The WYMT Mountain Top 10 serves it's purpose and I really try not to read into it as much,,,, but I would take JC over Pulaski this year by a TD... and last year by 2-3 TD's

WYMT loves them some Pulaski for whatever reason
