Terry hit a couple of 3's and Queen was solid on defense while guarding some strong players. Queen also missed a few foul shots that I know she would like to have back. Other than Brown no one really stood out for either team. Helton's substitution's were obviously scripted however; they played team ball and each set of 5 players on the floor kept pace and either led or stayed within 4 or 5 pts the entire first half.

 

The seniors came out strong in the second half and the juniors weathered the storm for a while and then for some reason a couple of players on the Jr's squad tried to do way too much and the team got out of sync and they never recovered. The game went from 40-38 to 60-38 before you could blink due to 1-on-5 basketball.

 

The juniors had never practiced or been in a game together and in my opinion with a few practices, and if Helton had some time to know his players, it would have been a different outcome or at least right down to the wire.

I am sure you all will have your own NKY All Star Team for Basketball. Seems like there is one for every sport.

Terry scored 8. Queen had 10 points, including one 3, and was the leading rebounder for the Juniors. Dittos regarding her defense...and the missed free throws.

Himmelfarb, it was great to meet you and your family last night. It was also nice to see Emily and Rebecca playing together. They seemed to become fast-friends. We will definitely have to keep in touch.

 

Rebecca had some Free-throws and shots that she would like to have back last night as well. She finished with 15 points, but had her worst shooting night ever. I think most of the kids were a little tight. Probably a combination of not knowing each other and not being in "season" shape. There were times in the second half that things were forced on the offensive end. That tends to happen when kids have to play together and they really don't know each other, or get to practice first. After the game, Rebecca said she would like to be able to play the game over, now that she knows the girls better. Out of the mouth of babes, wouldn't it be nice if it worked that way.

 

All of the girls did as well as could be expected under the circumstances. They all seemed to get along and things are looking bright for the All-Star team next year.

 

Boone Co. has a couple of excellant players that played with the juniors, Bradley and Brasseaux. I understand that they both will be Soph. We should be hearing a lot from them in the years to come.
