Shooting Reported At Bell County Courthouse

Kentucky State Police confirm that one person has died in a shooting at the Bell County Courthouse.

 

Police tell LEX 18 that Erik Barnette was in court at the Farmer Helton Judicial Building for a hearing. He was taken back into custody after failing to meet the court's requirements.

 

While in the elevator, officials say Barnette hit the bailiff and wrestled his gun from him. After grabbing the gun, officials say that Barnette shot himself.

He died as a result of his injuries.

 

Barnette's initial charges were for possession.
