August 24, 201511 yr I know this has been discussed for several years. Looks like it may come to fruition, in some small part anyway. Public/private partnerships could help out state parks - Frankfort & Franklin County, Kentucky The proposal in Pineville is for a lodging facility at Wasioto Winds Gold Course. The golf course is separated geographically from the Pine Mountain State Resort Park and the proposal includes a management option of the 18-hole course. The proposal for General Burnside Island also includes a lodging facility, but also gives a builder or operator an option to include a restaurant, convention facility and swimming pool. Deadline for both proposals is Sept. 15.
August 24, 201511 yr I agree that perhaps private entertainment companies could do a better job at renovating and remodeling facilities and making them more attractive to visitors. My worry is that we're going to hand off the only profitable arms of these parks to private companies and leave the state the expense of upkeeping wilderness areas that don't generate money. It all depends on how these deals are structured.

It all depends on how these deals are structured. Correct. Also sounds like they are staring out small scale, maybe like a pilot program and see how it goes. My fear was that the state would just contract out all the state resort parks at one time, or maybe a couple of the bigger better ones, which could have lead to a big fiasco.
August 24, 201511 yr State parks could use some renovations in those old lodges. Not sure that we need Motel 6's in all of these parks though.
