For anyone with rooted interest here is the word on the street:

Southwestern vs. Garrard County- Southwestern looked really good, especially the Edwards kid at RB. Worked Garrard over pretty thoroughly and outscored them 4 scores to 0 in the Varsity portion. Garrard struggled to move the ball on Southwestern's DLine.

Pikeville vs. Breathitt County- Panthers were on point and defeated Breathitt 32-8. Pikeville moved the ball at will and outside of a couple long runs Breathitt couldn't move the ball.

Corbin vs. Harlan County vs. Leslie County- Three teams... four games.... no points. All four defenses looked solid, and all four offenses looked flawed. Corbin was especially sloppy on offense outside of their RB Jewell, Harlan County moved the ball well but couldn't score in the redzone. Expect Harlan County JR RB Ty Simmons to have a big year.

Rockcastle County vs. Perry Central vs. McCreary Central- Rockcastle was the class of the group and looks much improved on both sides of the ball. McCreary Central is substantially improved and should end that winless streak but don't expect them to suddenly be a threat. Perry Central is transitioning from Air Raid to Ground and Pound and showed promise.

Corbin looks to be a little overrated to me, but they do have 13 or 14 new kids starting for the first time and they may suffer some early unexpected losses. Both the OL & DL lines looked solid, LB & DB play was spotty. They moved the ball well on the ground with Jewell, Carter and Sizemore, just need to clean up the penalties and the snap problems.

Leslie Co. will have a good year in 2A, have a good QB and good depth on the lines.

Harlan Co. may struggle again in 5A, although their passing game looked pretty good and they have an elusive RB that ran well. They just didn't seem to be as physical as I would have expected
