July 19, 201511 yr After hearing so much about them, I was hoping to dig them more than I do. I don't dislike them, and I generally am cool with their mellow laid back relaxing vibe. They're not exactly blowing me away, but just like a lot of other stuff that I've come to love, perhaps after multiple listens I may be singing another song about that. I applaud them for their own original experimental sound as they're not just recreating generic sounds that so many other popular bands might, so it does feel like they're breaking some new ground of their own. While they don't appear to really sound like anyone else, they do tend to evoke in me feelings that have me sensing comparisons related in tone and vibe to Sigur Ros, Grizzly Bear, Fleet Foxes, and Elbow all stirred up in a blender, while still they sound like none of them individually, and they do distinctly have their own fresh sounding beat structures that none of the aforementioned bands display. All in all I find them worthy of more of my attention to see if a marked goodness unfolds from their layers that has me eventually digging them more than I presently do.

I read on Wikipedia that Thom Green suffers from Alport Syndrome, a rare genetic disease which causes hearing and kidney failure. As a result he is now about 80 percent deaf.

"Left of the Dial" is a slang term talking about non-commercial radio stations. Paul Westerberg used it for the title of one of the more well-known songs by The Replacements.
