June 26, 201511 yr Good, didnt deserve to get the job in the first place. Ryne Sandberg Has Resigned as Phillies Manager
June 26, 201511 yr He was in over his head and as evidence by the way Chase Utley blasted the pitching coach on the mound a couple weeks ago, Sandberg had lost the locker room. Sandberg had a lousy team, but he made quite a few lousy decisions. HOF players don't always make great managers. It became pretty obvious why the Cubs never game him their managing gig. The Phillies are a dumpster fire right now. Ruban Amaro should be the next out of town. Hopefully they will free Cole Hamels and Papelbon from this mess and get a headstart on rebuilding the franchise.

June 26, 201511 yr Why resign instead of wait to be fired? My guess is they worked something out yesterday on the off day. Andy Mcphail is rumored to be close to being hired to run the Phillies operations, and likely would be bringing his own guy in. So it was just a matter of time. Why stick around and manage this team?? Sandberg was far from a great manager, but this team is probably the worst major league team I've ever seen. He would have gained nothing by staying Sandberg is just the first domino to fall. Amaro will likely be the next to go..he has been a complete failure as GM since taking over from Gillick, and his fingerprints are all over this mess.
June 27, 201511 yr I didn't know If that would keep him from being paid ? Getting out of that mess is probably worth giving up a few bucks for Sandberg.
