Severe Weather Alert Day (Friday 6/26/15)

Featured Replies

The entire state is in an enhanced area today for the possibility of strong to severe storms. The main threats look to be damaging winds, large hail and a couple of tornadoes.

Timing is still uncertain. This event could be later this evening into the overnight hours. I will try and post and update around mid morning.

Everyone should be weather aware this afternoon into the night time hours.

The Little Dawgs and the former Ms. are traveling south today on I-65, probably to E-town by noon. Whats the outlook then for that area?

Mid morning update:

I just looked at the Enhanced Thunderstorm Outlook for this afternoon. Most of Kentucky, except for parts of southeast and eastern KY, have a 40% chance of seeing strong to severe storms between noon and 4 pm EDT.

As of now the main threat window seems to be between 4-8 pm EDT. southcentral, central and eastern KY have a 70% chance of strong to severe storms.

After midnight the entire state will still have a 40% chance of storms.

Being in an enhanced risk area mean the following:

Numerous severe storms are possible. These can be more persistant and/or widespread. A Few can be intense.

a few tornadoes

several reports of wind damage.

damaging hail 1-2" in diameter.

noon to 4 pm EDT

They should be ok. I think most of the severe weather will hold off until around 4 pm or so EDT.

The 4-8 pm 70% chance area has been moved back westward and northward.
