May 27, 201511 yr Looks like some of us maybe in for more storms this afternoon. The main threat looks to be damaging winds and hail up to 1". Also look out for very heavy rain and lightning. Those in the Cincinnati/NKY area should be on the lookout for more possible severe storms. I'm watching the situation and will post an update when possible.
May 27, 201511 yr Author mid morning update: The slight risk area has been expanded southeastward. This means that the counties along the Ohio River should be on the lookout for possible severe storms later today. Cities in this area are Owensboro, Louisville and Cincinnati. There is a cluster of thunderstorms in southeast Mo. These are forecast to strengthen later this morning over southern Indiana and western Kentucky and move northeastward along the Ohio River. The primary threat with these storms are damaging winds and hail. A tornado or two can't be completely ruled out. I'm watching and and will post updates when possible. Stay weather aware for the rest of the day.
May 27, 201511 yr Author Just saw that a mesoscale discussion was just released for parts of western Kentucky. This mean a severe weather watch maybe issued for that part of the state. If a watch is issued I will post it as quickly as possible. This is because of the storms in southeast Missouri that I mentioned in my previous post.
May 27, 201511 yr Author Midday update: The slight risk area has just been expanded down to about just north of I-64. there is also a severe thunderstorm warning for a storm northeast of Owensboro heading in the general direction of Louisville. 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail have been reported with this storm. I don't know if it will hold together until it reaches the Louisville area but everyone should be prepared if it does. I'll be back when the info warrants it.

May 27, 201511 yr Author This storm struck Louisville with alarming suddenness as blue sky was quickly replaced by a rapidly developing thunderhead that exploded to life just west of town. As the storm moved east, rain, hail, and lightning hit "all at once" between 1 and 2 o'clock in the afternoon according to reports. Hailstones were as large as pigeons' eggs (about an inch and a half across). Prodigious lightning was also observed, and several chimneys were struck and damaged. The lightning was described as "unusually brilliant and of long duration" and the thunder shook houses like an earthquake. Louisville Storm May 27, 1873
May 27, 201511 yr I'm in extreme SW Jefferson County and the skies to our SW are definitely darkening.
May 27, 201511 yr Author I just got through reading the new mesoscale discussion for our area. A watch maybe issued soon for parts of western and central Ky. The storms are forecast to increase in coverage and intensify. As of now the main threats are damaging winds and hail. Of course a tornado or two is possible.
