South Laurel boys soccer coach Chris Hibbard resigns

Featured Replies

Chris has led the Cardinals to great successes in his tenure at South Laurel. He is the all time winningest coach in the 16th region (SL is a 16th regoin soccer team as the soccer regions are different than any other sport), tied for #13 in KHSAA career coaching wins at 170, was tied for #7 in all time wins among active coaches, has won numerous district & regional titles, advanced deep into the state tournament, turned out all state players & has at least 3 former players in the top 10-25 in career scoring and assists.

Chris has done a fantastic job at South Laurel and is still VERY young by coaching standards only being in his mid 30's. He was also the SL middle school boys soccer coach for years, dominating that conference, but resigned that post a few seasons ago.

Congratulations to Chris on a great career. He will be greatly missed on the sidelines for the Cardinals! I, for one, am very sad to see him retire so early, but wish to thank him for all he did for the student athletes at South Laurel.

Only got a chance to play him once, 2 years ago in the sectional finals.

That year they had two boys who scored 40+ goals in the same season. Our leading scorer that year finished with 13 I believe. Amazing game went into OT and we wound up winning 5-2, but that's when I realized that this team had some flat out players on it.

Great job at SL and hopefully he winds up somewhere to continue his tradition.

He is done coaching. This is pretty much a young retirement after a load of accomplished seasons. London is home, and I don't see him moving anywhere. He will continue to teach at SL.

Has anyone heard any news on who the new coach may be? Generally, for soccer, the lists are very limited as to who is interested and/or is qualified to be a head soccer coach. Any names? The players and parents I have spoken with have no idea on who may even apply for this job. They have some awfully big shoes to fill with all the Cards have accomplished under Hibbard.

That's a shame that he's done so early, since he's obviously a very very qualified coach.

I have been told that currently there are no applicants for the job. I really hope they find someone soon for the kids at South Laurel.

I am hearing that a recent graduate of Cumberland College who was a standout soccer player there may be applying for the job. If so, he could be an excellent fit for the Cardinals.

There have been a number of applicants and I've been told by a EXCELLENT source the front-runner is from Tennessee and has won three or four state titles.

With what they pay their soccer coach, I doubt that they will get that one. I know that they are very interested in the recent grad from Cumberland as he knows several of the kids and comes highly recommended.

If they could get the coach from Tenn. with those kinds of credentials, ... that would be awesome!!!

Wait and see my friend.

When I posted that on the 15th, the administration at SL had stated that they had no apps at that time. My what a week can do! This would be very good news for SL.

I was told this on the 19th when Chappell was hired.

I just heard that this applicant has indeed applied and you are right once again. (Man it hurts to say that). I am not sure what he teaches, but apparently they may have an opening that he is qualified to fill as a teacher as well as a coach. This could be a very good fit!!!! :thumb:

Ignore most of my PM

BTW, Les, your PM box is full! Clean it out dude!!
