Congrats on the win. I do not think kids who are not in the high school should be playing varsity when there are underclassman who pay tuition to go to the school. Looking at the roster, there are plenty of kids to play who go to the high school. It is high school sports.

Sounds like the Lady Crusaders bats are still going!!! Congrats!!!

Thanks for the input

Great win Cru. I'll bet you used to voice your opinions on sports talk shows and you immediately were disconnected.

Two years ago Coach Fogt was awarded the St Henry head coaching job. She was taking over a program that returned 2 juniors, 1 sophomore and 5 freshman. If you add those three together YOU DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH to field a team. Coach Fogt tried to get high school kids to play !!! None would play. She did what she had to do to field a team. Senior Noell Butts went on to become 9th region player of the year on a team that had 2 sometimes 3 middle school kids on the field. I don't think it would have been fair to take that away from Noell because " It is high school sports"

Last Year Coach Fogt faced a similar situation. She could not get any new underclassmen to come out for the team. 2 transfers were welcomed with open arms, 2 players were lost to graduation, The team had 1 senior and 2 others were lost to injury, once again there would not have been a St Henry Softball Lady Crusader Team if it weren't for the non high school kids parents who were not paying tuition at st Henry but at one of the diocesan approved feeder schools.

Now let's talk about this season, Since last June parents of The 2014 Fighting Lady Crusaders have been working bingos , donating their time, hard earned money and have exasperated their resources to generate funds for this weeks upcoming trip to play in Florida. It's amazing how a team going to Florida brings out new faces but now also deserve to play varsity ,not because of how they play the game but simply because their parents pay tuition at St Henry High instead of IHM.

For the first time in two plus years the Cru is not forced to have a middle school girl that starts for them. But the middle school girl that went two for three on Wednesday is an example of why the program has actually been able to field a team. Kaitlyn and all other girls who have busted their tails for years albeit if they were in middle or high school do not deserve your unjust criticism.

I've meet both coach Fogt's. They both went out of there way to check my daughter out for a sub on the select team they coach. So I would imagine that they would do the same for St. Henry fastpitch. I purposely used the word fastpitch, because we sometimes forget that it really is fast and not soft(ball). These select teams are practicing year round. Some girls in high school play other sports or they only play high school ball, and are getting passed by the select ball girls. You not only put the best on the field, you put the girls that can protect their selves as well even if it means younger girls (middle school kids.) I've seen a handful of fifth graders that could play as good as some high schoolers and it goes back to year round ball with select vs a high schooler who only plays for 4 months. Plus like another thread said, you don't have enough girls in this area interested in softball. I'm sure all high school coaches would love a varsity team with all select ball experienced seniors and leave the middle schoolers with grandma, but that's not reality or is it?

I know I am in a losing battle on this one. And It is only my opinion and I fully respect opposing views. I am not being critical of only the Crusaders in this. I have voiced my opinion in the past with playing middle/grade school kids on a high school team for any/other schools.

In my opinion high school sports should be for high school students only. It really doesn't matter if they pay tuition or not. I think we lose focus on it being a high school extra curricular activity. And I'm sorry, but if there is not enough interest in the program to field a team with the high school kids, then the school should not field a team.

At the very least, we have another poster on bgp. Welcome aboard LadyCru7.

No problem. The St Henry Coaches, Players and parents are very dear to my heart and I took it as a shot. You are entitled to your opinion, I just disagree

"And I'm sorry, but if there is not enough interest in the program to field a team with the high school kids, then the school should not field a team. "

I gotcha, so if you have 8 kids who love softball, you say to em, 'sorry I know you kids love softball but you aren't going to play this year because we aren't going to field a team cause Just Jim doesn't think its right for an 8th grader to play.'
