Sweet 16 Preview: Knott County Central Patriots

KNOTT COUNTY CENTRAL PATRIOTS PREVIEW

Head Coach: BB King

Region: 14th

District: 53rd

Knott County Central was the pre-season favorite to repeat their district and region titles and that they did. The Camron Justice-led Patriots breezed by every team in the region that they played, in fact, no 14th region game they played, they won by 15+.

Here’s How They Got To The Sweet 16:

53rd District Tournament:

Knott County Central would play Jenkins in the first round of the 53rd district tournament and like most of their games this season, it wouldn’t be much of a contest as the Patriots would steam roll to a 74-27 victory over the Cavaliers.

Knott county Central would play host, Letcher County Central Cougars for the district championship, this game would be close with Letcher Central holding the ball, stalling and slowing the game down but in the end, Knott Central would prevail 48-28.

14th Region Tournament:

Knott County Central would face the runner-up in the 54th district, Buckhorn in a rematch from a game earlier in the year where the Patriots throttled the Wildcats 72-43, on Buckhorn’s own home floor. As much as Buckhorn wanted to get revenge on the Patriots, the Patriots were just too much to handle as they would roll to a 60-42 victory to advance to the semi-finals.

Knott County Central would face off against the Engineers of Estill County to see who would go on to face the Commodores of Perry Central, who defeated Powell County 63-47 earlier in the evening. Estill would go up 2-0 but that’s as close as they’d get and the only lead they would get as Knott County Central would de-rail the Engineers hard, 56-27 to advance to the Championship game of the 14th region tournament.

Knott Central and Perry Central would square off again for the 3rd time this season, this time to see who would go to the Sweet 16 in Rupp Arena. The game would be a good first half but the second half would be all Patriots as they would turn up and cruise to a 53-31 victory over the Commodores.

The Patriots are led in scoring by Vanderbilt commit, Camron Justice who comes into the KHSAA Sweet 16 averaging 23.8 points a game, shooting 53.9% from the field (249/462) and 42.3% from 3 (102/241).

Evan Hall is a big contributor to the Patriots, averages close to a double double every game with 15 and 9.

Besides those two, the Patriots have several different weapons that they can hurt you with. Chance Cornett, Dalton Cornett, Simon Christon. All those players averages 7+ points a game, it may not seem as much or as big

contributors, scoring wise, but they are tremendous contributors to the Patriots.

The Patriots will open up the Sweet 16 against Calloway County, region 1 winner on Thursday night at 8 PM EST.
