I remember reading about this in my Sporting News back then and marveling at the craziness of Bird losing the record to McHale, then getting it back just days afterward. We didn't have cable at our house at the time, and getting NBA news was impossible from Cincy and other stations I could pick up with the old motorized rotor antenna.

Bird was my all time favorite player and those 80's Celtics are still my favorite sports team ever. Thanks for letting me relive this memory again. The Hawks players' reactions are truly priceless. The behind the scenes comments from the other players are really cool too. Can you imagine an NBA player running a 5 mile race DURING the season now? Heck, they can't even play all the games without taking games off to "rest" now.
