Former player joins the Marines

Featured Replies

I had a former player of mine, Chance Ward, swear in to the Marines this afternoon and I had the privilege to be with him and watch as he did so.

Some you may remember, Chance is the young man that went to The Cumberland's and played jv basketball there year before last. Unfortunately after one semester it was just too expensive for him to stay and he has been working here and there every since. We sat down and discussed his options back in the late summer, and he recently decided the military was the way for him, and he wanted to join the Marines. He doesn't ship out till later this year, so he has a little bit of a wait, but I think he is excited to get this new chapter of his life going.

Cool of you to be there to support him.

I would have gone anyway, but I really felt the need to be there since he had no family there with him. Everybody, and I mean ever other kid there either shipping out or swearing in had family there. I was able to take some pictures as well. He's a really good kid. I hope this turns out for the best for him.

Even better.

That's awesome, BigV! So glad you were there to support this young man. You might have made all the difference in the world to this kid and his future. That is something to be proud of for sure!

Thanks Cat. He has reached out to me for advice on a couple of occasions. I hope what I was able to share with him has/will help.
