Transylvania Playing for Last Spot in HCAC Tournament

Featured Replies

Doing some small conference breakdowns on my site... Transy is in a "play in" situation Saturday for the last spot in the HCAC Tournament:

In the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC), each team has one game remaining in the regular season and seven teams are currently vying for six available spots in the conference tournament.

Transylvania University (12-12, 9-8 HCAC) is one of two teams in the running for the final tournament spot.

Here's a breakdown...

Our Team of Interest: Transylvania University

Current HCAC Standings:

x Mount St. Joseph 14-3 19-5

x Defiance 13-4 18-6

x Anderson 12-5 13-11

x Rose-Hulman 10-7 14-10

Bluffton 9-8 13-11

x Hanover 9-8 12-12

Transylvania 9-8 12-12

Franklin 4-13 5-19

Manchester 4-13 5-19

Earlham 1-16 1-23

x - clinched spot in postseason tournament

Saturday's games:

3:00 p.m. Mount St. Joseph at Rose-Hulman

3:00 p.m. Anderson at Earlham

4:00 p.m. Defiance at Franklin

4:00 p.m. Bluffton at Transylvania

5:00 p.m. Manchester at Hanover

What Transylvania needs: Obviously, the easy answer is a win over Bluffton. Hanover has already clinched a berth by virtue of head-to-head games, which leaves one spot for either Transy or Bluffton. Saturday's game in Lexington will be a "play-in" game for the conference tournament.

I've seen a lot of HCAC games this year.

If Transy can control the Reckers? kid from Bluffton inside, then they have a great chance. Kid is only 6-4 (maybe) but knows how to use his body. Transy would be wise to get him in foul trouble. I like Transy in this game.

It kind of goes with out saying, but Mt. St. Joe and Defiance were the 2 best teams I watched this year. Mt knows how to pass and run their sets and if they are shooting well they will be tough to beat. Like how they play.

Hanover could make some noise, have a nice combo of size and guard play.

If Mt loses and Defiance wins, who gets to host the tourney?

Looks like the tourney is being hosted by Defiance.

Transy loses in overtime and a chance to go to the tourney. Reckers kid for Bluffton had 26 and 11.
