NewCath girls are not afraid to get physical.

NewCath's full court press had the Bearcats in trouble in the beginning, and quite a few times failed to convert. At one point in the early 2nd quarter NewCath was up 24-10. However, the Breds found themselves missing quite a few gimme's and weren't able to set up the press allowing Walton-Verona to score at the other end and get back in this one. Hailey Ison was a beast for the Bearcats, scoring the majority of her 20 points from point blank range, including a very nice bucket in traffic to get to her milestone 1000th career point. Morgan Simpson also contributed nicely during the Bearcats 2nd quarter comeback, and when the Bearcats were trying to make their 2nd half comeback Allie Mills was draining the 3's (all 12 of her points from distance).

However, the Breds started to catch fire in the 2nd half and the press caused the Bearcats to either turn the ball over or the Breds would come up with the steal. Michaela Ware with another solid job handling the rock and playing "D", her speed flat out "kills" the opposition. Ansley Davenport quietly goes about her business at both ends of the floor, very business like when she is on the floor. Fr. Lexi Breen was a big spark offensively tonight knocking down 4/5 triples, on her way to 14 pts. The Breds were led tonight by Loren Zimmerman who dropped in 18 on the evening.....mid-range jumpers, a couple of 3's, and drives to the basket, Loren did it all tonight. One in particular, she had a beautiful steal and went coast to coast, then faked the pass and went up for the score. :ylsuper:

The Breds might be small in size but trust me, they aren't afraid to get physical with anyone, and if there is a loose ball be ready to see some bodies hittin' the floor. Good job ladies on a nice win.

And likewise!

Went to a fight and a basketball game broke out. It was physical!!!

Never heard it put this way. That is funny.

Congrats to NCC on the win!

Maybe the 4 points away from a thousand thing, maybe just jitters, I have no idea but Walton just could not get started. Fell behind double digits, and had to dig out of a hole. Once they settled down, they played very well to get back within 4 at the half. The game was actually a 1 point game late in the 3rd with the Bearcats getting a little momentum...then all of the sudden, things got very physical. Up until that point, I really didn't think it was that physical. Referee's and the way the game was called was very much in the back ground. All that changed late in the third. LB is 100% correct. NCC will get after it and they are not afraid to be physical. IF they are allowed to play that physical, it will be hard for a lot of teams to beat them. Bearcats were not able to handle the physicality very well, especially after DeZarn went down on a fumble...oops, loose ball.

A couple of other things...

Ware is stinkin' fast. Walton had her trapped at half court with 3 defenders, I blinked, and she was scoring a layup.

I would have loved to have seen Walton put Ison back in the post early in the fourth, when NCC had Ware defending her. Ware is a lock down defender on the perimeter, but perhaps not as much guarding a skilled back to the basket player in the paint.

NCC shot very, very well from 3...don't let LB's game updates mislead you. Was probably the difference in the game....(besides the crazy shift/turn to physical part)

I think the game was phyiscal the whole time. However, I felt it never got out of control and the refs let them play because most contact was no advantage. It was actually a game that had flow to it because it wasn't stopping every 10 seconds for a whistle. One player did foul out, but most other players only had about 2 fouls on average compared to everyone on the floor having 4 near the end of the game the past two years.

As far as the game Ncc came out hotter than five alarm chili and was up 19 to 5 in the first quarter. Walton Verona settled in and chipped away at the lead and the Breds were only up 31 to 27 at the break. The third quarter Walton Verona continued to play very well and cut the lead to 39 to 38 near the end of the third quarter, but the Lexy Breen show started and she hit 4 threes in a very short span of time. Walton continued to knock down shots to cut the lead to maybe 6 in the fourth quarter but could not get any closer.

I will say Ison is very good dribble drive and either finishes, or knocks down free throws. Ncc's defense is pretty good, and she flat got to the rim and make something happen. Congrats on getting 1,000 points for her high school career. Very nice gesture to stop the game and announce as soon as she made it, and both sides giving her a well deserved ovation.

Those were daggers. Nails in the coffin. WV did well to keep it even as close as 6 on the road, in the wake of that bombardment.

Breen seems to have some nice games then vanishes from the paper for a few games?

Nice stab. And you will get the same response here as in the other thread...more than some, less than others. :thumb:

Question for you since you like to keep pressing...since you used a players hot shooting streak as a spring board for your "athletic" post/jab, do you consider shooting as a sign or part of athleticism?

Only meant in good fun, sorry if it offended. Im friends with Coach Clink and wish the Bearcats well. By the way Mrs. Ison is one of my daughters favorite teachers. As to your question, I think that athleticism helps you create some shots.
