February 5, 201511 yr Thought we should revisit this topic......... Last week Me and Mrs. Lawnboy went to Bogarts to see Extreme, they are on tour for the 25th anniversary of the release of their multi-platinum album Pornografitti. They played the entire Pornografitti album front to back....(great show BTW). All week before the show I played my entire Extreme library on my mp3 player in my FedEx truck (and still listening to it). As I listen to their songs, both the music and lyrics are pretty amazing.....especially the lyrics, as most are very "thought provoking". Lead Vocalist Gary Cherone and Guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, write, sing, produce, and arrange 99% of all Extreme's music. The following song/video is from their 2008 release Saudades de Rock (which roughly translates from Portuguese as "Nostalgic Yearnings of Rock"), Bettencourt was born in Portugal. The song speaks of someone with a heavy conscience and the feeling of great regret, "Sorry for the words, words I left unsaid, Sorry being one of the words I did forget". Listening to this songs begs the question, "do you have any Ghost in your head"? At the 3:30 mark is were I feel the lyrics are so poignant. [video=youtube_share;PYqwvBQiwkQ]
February 5, 201511 yr Author Another great one off the same release.......Video shot in Portugal. BTW, Mrs. Lawnboy knew the ending of the video half way through. [video=youtube_share;lbbA-YIeLNo]
February 5, 201511 yr Glad you revisited the topic of the Extreme show because I've been meaning to ask you what you thought of it, but it got lost in the shuffle of the marathon of the All "A" Classic. I admire all the B-Ball and music you manage to find the time to cram into your head. I dig what you obviously consider to be your highest priorities. Anything less would just be dullsville and a sign of old age. Obviously you want no part of that. Keep on Rockin' :ylsuper:

Keep on Rockin' :ylsuper: As far as the concert, these guys can still "bring it'. :ylsuper: The harmonies you hear in their recordings are the exact same live, unbelievable.....Nuno can play the guitar, one of the best. Cherone's voice still sounds the same, and his vocal range is wide. You of all people, I would of thought I would see a review of these songs/videos....what gives? :idunno::lol2:
February 5, 201511 yr Never understood why he went so far away from this style of singing when he went to Van Halen. That was almost unbearable, but I like this.
February 5, 201511 yr Sorry it took me so long to get back to this thread...got wrapped up on the phone. Back when Extreme was starting out was just about the time I was starting to fade into other music scenes, and although I had an inclination that they were an exceptional band of the time with quality musicianship, and nice harmonizing vocals, unfortunately I never gave them the attention they deserved. My guitarist friend Joe was very much into them and was always telling me that I needed to really give them a listen, and that they were not just run of the mill. He'd spin their jams for me, and I typically dug what I was hearing, and could see that they truly were original, innovative, and were marching to the beat of their own drum, but I never added them to my collection while I was putting my musical dollar into other stuff that was then catching my attention. Of course I heard "More Than Words" and really liked it, but never dug deep enough to even be able to name another tune by them. I listened to these two tracks and found them to be pleasant and consistent with my familiarity of their sound, and it seems right in line with what I'd expect from them. I'm pretty sure that I could have gone to that show with little knowledge of their catalogue and still enjoyed it. They have an instant likability about them that is worthy of respect that they are talented musicians, singers and songwriters writing quality epic tunes. My perspective of them back when they began was that they were separating themselves from the ordinary pop/metal/rock sound of the day to delve deeper into stylistic leanings that were ripe with melody and tasteful intelligent musicianship. They didn't seem interested in promoting a flavor of the minute attitude filled image, but to just create timeless music that could be lasting. They've succeeded because they can't be bunched in with all the bands of the time, as they separated themselves by creating a sound all their own.
February 5, 201511 yr Not sure why exactly but I feel real familiar with the "Interface" tune like I've heard it before. Would this tune have been all over the radio at some point?
February 5, 201511 yr I've spinned both tunes a few more times to become more familiar and I'm digging them more with more listens. I finally paid closer attention to the Interface video, and the ending totally caught me off guard...I didn't see it coming. Just thought that the girl was jealous that her guy was having a drink with the other girls, and that Sara in particular was someone who had been between them in the past.

I like to listen/watch the video, and then listen again while pulling up the lyrics. The more you listen, the more you can "soak in" the message. I'm with you, that I thought the same about the players in the video, but like I said in the 1st post.......Mrs. Lawnboy figured it out half way through.
