Whitefield Academy 46 Fern Creek 45

6'7" Senior Kyle Jackson led the Wildcats with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 blocked shots.

Since it is top of mind for you Coach Q.....obliged big guy. Big man for WA, Kyle Jackson, was outstanding on both ends of the court. The WA team was up for this game and played with way more emotion and effort than FC which is what makes HS BB exciting. FC lacked anyone stepping up big beyond Ahmad Price, one of those freshmen. He showed how special he is with what I suspect was at least 20 points or more. The other two and the rest of the team were off with their shooting.

BTW...your feelings hurt in some way about these kids? Your negativity shows through your sarcasm and not sure why. It is not common in Jefferson County to see freshmen even play much, but to start and have three on one team start is unique enough that it is hard to recall when it last happened. Hopefully they fulfill their potential and give Fern Creek a trip to Rupp that has never happened in FC history before. At least they have 4 tries at it, but there will be losses along the way.

I was thinking Whitefield would possibly win a district game because they returned some players from last year that challenged East, Creek, Jtown. The creek loss makes for a 3 way tie for 2nd place in the District.

With a 3 way tie how do they do the seeding?

The trick now is for the FC coach to keep those freshmen happy for the next three years. When things like playing time and sacrifices made for the sake of the team come up the kids now simply transfer.

The new coach at Whitefield has certainly turned some heads this year. With it being a private school, I'm interested to see how they can build on this. Will they adopt a booster program like some of the other schools have? They're located in a hot bed of talent.

A lot of districts use point differential between the teams which could lead to J-Town as the two-seed. Interesting for the 3 or 4 seed. Dont Think East would want Fern Creek in the first round. I see as 1. East 2. J-Town 3. Fern Creek 4. Whitefield. Tie breakers rules should be on file with the KHSAA.

I like the games of all 3 kids, especially Ahmad Price, but we don't need a constant reminder that they are freshmen. When you get that much talent together, the expectations should be high. Sometimes other teams are just better on certain nights. Next year will we be reminded after every loss that they're all sophomores?

Coach Schooler is a really good coach and I don't think he would want anyone making excuses for him. He's been a part of winning programs. He put this team together and knew what he was getting into when he did. I don't think he needs anyone to make excuses for him.

These kids have won at the highest levels as a part of the Gators. They'll be fine in the long run and losses such as these make them better in the long run.

It seems the district seeding for the 24th District is as follows:

Head - To Head results

Records vs common opponents in 6th/7th region

LIT ratings

Just looking at that, 1. East, 2. Fern Creek, 3. Jtown, 4. Whitefield.

Last nights results could have been interesting. Jtown pushed East to the end last night. If Jtown would have won (still can't finish games in the 4th) with the Creek loss, Jtown would have been the #1 seed, East #2, WhiteField #3, Fern Creek #4. which would have resulted in the same match ups in the first round.

Common opponents are sometimes hard to use because some private schools dont play the same schedule. Would hate for a seeding to be decided by the LIT ratings when some teams play a tougher schedule than others.

We are closer to agreement with this last post of yours, but I would disagree that I used their age as an excuse in this loss if you read what I posted. I teased you a bit mentioning the freshmen status because of the sarcasm of your initial post, but not sure where you interpreted my response as making excuses. Anyway, these freshmen who played all season need to play like sophomores in the latter part of the season or the Fern Creek run will end rather abruptly come tourney time.

If you look at posts from around the state and see the best freshmen playing it is often noted when mentioning them the fact of their playing as significant contributors as freshmen. Freshmen Jalen Johnson, Freshmen Steven Cager, Freshmen Andrew Taylor, Freshmen Steven Fitzgerald, and Freshmen Trevon Faulkner all are many times described with the "Freshmen" moniker. Check out the Ballard/Hoptown post from last night as an example mentioning Jalen Johnson specifically. It seems to get under your skin for some reason, when it is not that big of a deal to note it.

Not sure you are the authority on Coach Schooler to be asserting what he thinks or wants since he doesn't even know you, but I agree he is not using it as an excuse nor have I used that for him. Freshmen will be inconsistent at times, but you get the good with the bad. Nobody appreciates a loss, but also agree that losses can be valuable teaching opportunities....as long as there are not bunches of them. Then it begins to work against confidence.

Bizarre he would say he doesn't know me considering we've interacted a lot over the last year or so. He even went out of his way twice to shake my hand at the Fern Creek scrimmages in November.

Either way, I think our discussion has hijacked this thread.

Congrats to Whitefield Academy on a big win last night. That district should be a fun one.
