Featured Replies

Final from Booneville

This locks up the 1 seed for the Engineers, regardless of how the Lee County turns out, Estill will have the 1 seed at 5-0.

Engineers were led in scoring by Freshmen Caleb Bonny who had 18, 13 of those were in the first half, including shooting 3-3 from 3 point range in the first quarter. Michael Bishop added 16, Trevor Jones had 11, Chipper Hitchcock 8 and Joe Benton 3

Owsley County was led in scoring by both Michael Pullins and Blake Combs who had 10 a piece, Logan Campbell and Chase Combs both added 9 a piece, Dean Lynch added 6 while Braden Hoskins had 4.

Estill County (13-8): 12-13-15-20 -- 60

Owsley County (6-11): 12-13-2-21 -- 48

#2 Powell County -- Pirates just need one more win to lockup the 2 seed

#3 Owsley -- Owsley County needs to beat both Lee and Powell (16+) to get the 2 seed

#4 Lee County -- Lee County needs to beat Owsley County by 6+ to get out of the four spot.

In the end I think it will be like it has been past several years

(1) Estill vs (4) Lee

(2) Powell vs (3) Owsley

Owsley County has a very small team, one of the smallest I've seen in a while (and actually the Engineers are small too, which is unusual for them). One player who has some height hasn't been in uniform for several games. I suppose he's no longer on the team. With that said, it was difficult to establish a post game and Estill County played a zone that kept them passing around the perimeter seeking an opening for a shot. They drove the ball and had some success, but it was limited. After being tied at the half, the 3rd quarter was a killer for the Owls as they scored only 2 points. Just couldn't make shots, but Estill County was knocking down 3s and expanding the lead. The Owls cut the lead to 7 in the 4th but missed free throws and turnovers hurt in crucial moments.

Two district games remaining: Powell away and Lee at home. Owls are 1-3 in district play. More than likely will be playing Powell County in the tournament, which is at Owsley County this year.
