We're just about a month away from the start of the district tournaments all across the state, including here in the 14th Region.

 

Here's a look at each district tournament inside the 14th Region.

 

 

53rd District:

 

Site: Letcher County Central High School

 

Seeded: Yes

 

1. Knott County Central:

 

The Patriots have blew through everyone they've played this season. Knott County Central stands at 4-0 in district play and as of now has the #1 seed locked down with 2 district games remaining. Knott County Central is defeating their district opponents by an average of 35.5 points per game.

 

1/28 @ Letcher County Central, 2/5 vs. Jenkins

 

2. Letcher County Central:

The Cougars are 2-2 in district play and own the tiebreaker with June Buchanan. The Cougars will more than likely finish the season at 3-3 in district play with two remaining district games.

 

It's almost a guarantee that Letcher Central and June Buchanan will meet in the first round of the district tournament.

 

1/28 vs. Knott County Central, 1/29 @ Jenkins

 

 

3. June Buchanan:

 

This is one of the best seasons's at June Buchanan in quite awhile. The Crusaders own a victory over #2 Letcher County Central. The Crusaders stand at 2-3 in district play

 

1/26 @ Jenkins (Postponed, no date announced)

 

4. Jenkins:

The Cavaliers have struggled all season, not just in district play but overall. Jenkins has a total of 4 wins, 0 in district play. 0-3 is where the Cavaliers stand at in district play.

 

1/26 vs. June Buchanan (Postponed, no date announced), 1/29 Letcher County Central, 2/5 @ Knott County Central

 

 

54th District:

 

Site: Buckhorn High School

 

Seeded: No, according to KHSAA

 

1. Perry County Central:

 

The Commodores stand at 4-0 in district play and will look to roll into the district tournament as the #1 overall seed in the 54th district. Perry County Central has had fits from Buckhorn in both meetings this season.

 

2/6 vs. Hazard

 

 

2. Buckhorn:

 

The Wildcats are 5-2 in district play with 0 district games remaining so they are locked in at #2. Buckhorn has played Perry County Central close in both games that the two teams have met this season.

 

 

3. Hazard:

 

Hazard had an up and down season this year, which is really surprising considering year's past. Hazard just has 1 win in district play with a 76-43 thrashing over Leslie County.

 

2/6 @ Perry County Central, 2/12 Leslie County

 

 

 

4. Leslie County:

 

The Eagles are struggling this season, especially in district play. Leslie County stand at 0-5 in district play and will need a 34+ points win @ Hazard to get out of the 4 spot.

55th District:

 

Site: Jackson City will be the host but it will be held at Wolfe County High School

 

Seeded: No

 

1. Jackson City:

 

Believe it or not, Jackson City is 2-1 in district play and owns the tie breaker with Wolfe County.

 

2/3 @ Riverside Christian

 

 

2. Wolfe County:

 

Wolfe County also stands at 2-1 but it doesn't really matter what place they finish as the district isn't seeded.

 

1/29 @ Breathitt County

 

 

 

3. Breathitt County:

 

Breathitt County has played one district game this season, against Wolfe County and will only have two district games left to play until the district tournament.

 

1/29 Wolfe County, 2/20 @ Riverside Christian

 

 

4. Riverside Christian:

 

Riverside has yet to win a game this season but they also play one of the toughest schedules their is for a small school of their size.

 

2/20 vs. Breathitt County

 

 

56th District:

 

Site: Owsley County High School

 

Seeded: Yes

 

1. Estill County:

 

Estill County stands at 4-0 in district play. Estill County also has a 7 game win streak going on. Engineers have defeated their opponents by an average of 13.7 points per game.

 

1/30 @ Owsley County, 2/6 Lee County

 

2. Powell County:

 

The Pirates are starting to get things rolling as the season comes to an end. The Pirates stand at 2-2 in district play but have won the district 2 out of the last 3 years.

 

 

1/27 @ Lee County, vs. Owsley County (no date announced yet as the makeup date from 1/16)

 

 

 

3. Owsley County:

 

Owsley County played Estill County close throughout the entire game in a 41-34 loss to the Engineers in Irvine.

 

@ Powell County (no date announced yet as the makeup date from 1/16), 2/17 vs. Lee County

 

 

4. Lee County

 

This is one of the worst seasons for the Bobcats in school history. Lee County stands at 1-17 overall but 0-3 in district play.

 

1/27 Powell County, 2/6 @ Estill County

 

 

53rd is pretty much set. Jenkins will face Letcher Central tomorrow, June Buchanan on Saturday and Knott Central on February 5th. A lot would have to happen for Jenkins to get out of the 4 spot.

 

Jenkins would have to beat Knott (@ Knott) by 29+

 

Jenkins would have to beat Letcher Central (@ Jenkins) by 24+

 

Jenkins would have to beat June Buchanan (@ Jenkins) by 23+

 

 

Upsets do happen but that's a longggg mountain to climb...

53rd District:

(2) Letcher County Central (3-3) vs. (3) June Buchanan (3-3) -- Letcher Central owns tiebreaker. lost to JBS 35-34 but won 72-69

 

54th District:

 

Draw hasn't happened yet.

 

 

55th District:

 

Riverside Christian @ Wolfe County

Breathitt County vs. Jackson City

 

 

56th District:

 

(1) Estill County vs. (4) Lee County/Owsley County

(2) Powell County vs. (3) Lee County/Owsley County

 

 

Owsley County defeated Lee County 65-60 earlier in the year @ Lee County. These two will meet on Wednesday to determine the 3 and 4 seeds. Owsley needs to win to remain at 3, Lee County must win by 7+ to get the 3 spot.

You said Hazard only has 1 district win in the 53rd. They have 2, with wins over Leslie and Perry.
