Take nothing away from GRC, they are a very solid team but I did not expect this result in the least. Would love to hear from Panda and the rest of the NDA faithful on what happened? I saw the NDA/Holmes game and while it is tough to contend with the speed and depth of Holmes I was impressed with NDA's post players and felt they would be more than enough for the 2 pronged attack of Skinner and Anderson. Was this just a bad shooting night or is there coaching issues?

Yes. I think two of their top 6 are out and I think for the year.

Great win for the Cards.

ND was down 3 players due to injury (according to ND fans I talked to at the game last night). GRC had a big game from Skinner and slowly pulled away over the course of the second half.

 

ND was a super quick team and I believe they had an off shooting night based upon other scores I had seen. Get them back at full strength and this score could have easily been reversed.

 

And the fans from ND were fantastic. Great people who love their team.

Skinner did have a great game. Very talented young lady. Excited that she will be playing at the next level. GRC was very hospitable as well as talented.

Thanks so much for the kind words. Most people will post complaints and it is very nice to see positive posts. Really appreciate it. Sandra Skinner is a great young lady on and off the court. VCU is getting a very good one.

Lady Cards hold off Notre Dame Academy

 

Sandra Skinner led Clark with 23 points, scoring 12 of those in the second half. Paige Taylor followed Skinner with 11 points. Sydney Anderson just missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

 

“The first half was slow and methodical,” Graham said. “I think we both felt like we set basketball back a little bit that first half.”

 

It changed in the final two quarters as Clark’s pressure and up-and-down pace wore down the Pandas and led to the double-digit victory.

 

A 3-pointer by Paige Taylor to open the second half and a pair of free throws by Skinner gave the Lady Cards a 23-19 lead. Clark outscored the Pandas 15-6 in the third frame and led 33-25 going into the final eight minutes.

 

“We were patient and we were able to get some pressure going in the second half,” Graham said. “We were able to speed (the game up) in the second half. Paige hitting a couple of threes tonight was big for us. It’s good to see her get some confidence.”

 

Clark pushed the margin to 42-28 with four minutes remaining, but the Pandas staged a final surge and used a 7-0 run to pull within 42-35 with two minutes remaining, but the Lady Cards made 7 of 8 free throws and outscored Notre Dame 9-0 in the final minute for the final margin.

 

Graham liked the scoring contributions from Mahlea Bell, who scored all four of her points in the third quarter on a pair of offensive rebounds.

 

“She’s young and an eighth-grader, but she has a world of potential,” he said. “I know she is going to help us down the stretch and I keep tell her, ‘we’re going to need you.’ It was an overall team effort.”

Agree 100%. It is part of the game, BUT wish more poster would understand this. I was raked over the coals for mentioning we had players hurt and could not play in another thread. Said I was down grading the players that did play. I was just stating important facts that could change the game.

Hellman did not play. Must be Stallman with 11.
