Brown 2014/2015

Featured Replies

Basketball season for 2014/2015 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Brown. Remember, please be constructive.

Brown lost 6 of its top 9 players to graduation or transfers. They will be very young and have a new coach; a long time assistant at Holy Cross and Waggener. He did a good job at both places. If they play like they did this summer, in Derick Smith shootout, will be at a fast pace both offensively and defensively. They have to get past Male or St. X to get out of district, I do not see that happening.

I know I've said this before, but I find the Brown School absolutely intriguing.

The smallest school in JCPS, it has 700 students from kindergarten through grade 12. I think all students are required to take AP classes in high school and I've even heard they encourage the students to call teachers by their first names.

They've produced a number of interesting local alumni that far oustrips their enrollment numbers including Wendy Whelan, a world-renowned dancer formerly of the New York City ballet and several musicians such as Bonnie Prince Billy (Will Oldham) and the founding members of math-rock pioneers Slint.

It's a fascinating place.

Sorry... basketball.

Yeah, I'll be curious to see what the first year coach can do with a young group of guys, but like 6thregionguy said, there's little chance they'll emerge out of a district with Male and St. X to make the regional tournament. The Bears only won six games last year, so there's room for growth and not a lot of expectation.

I think the new coach is the good news for the Brown Bears, and I think it is really good news. He's a real basketball guy. I think he will improve things dramatically basketball-wise. But with a team that only won 6 games last year and which has lost 6 of its top 9 players, the improvement might not result in more wins quite yet.
