Just one Honorable Mention for the 9th Region champs?

The Honorable mentions are often quite surprising... Some players get awards at every district and every region tournament, and mentioned on every list all through their high school career. It really is a mystery what some people see and others don't...

A friend of mine who's son was one of the Louisville boys selected and attended an All-State game this past Saturday. He told me that outside of the freezing temperature he went on about he said the games were very fun to watch, especially the 1st/2nd team game. He commented it was enjoyable to watch a high school game were there was quality play across the whole pitch but most importantly a game without any fouls. Of course I reminded him, there was nothing to play for outside of the pure love of the game. He said, they really looked to be having a blast and really had spectacular moments of play. Not sure if any of the local boys made it down there but hope they did and enjoyed it as much as my friend's son did.

The 1st/2nd team match was fun to watch. The boys did seem to have a great time and many of the kids (on both squads) knew each other from club, high school and/or ODP so there seemed to be a good deal of friendly conversation among the kids. My son commented after the game that it was just as much fun to catch up with some of his old soccer friends as it was to play the match. Absolutely no trash talking, no questionable challenges and just good, clean, skillful play. Quite a refreshing change after watching several high school matches this fall that did not have the same characteristics.

 

Cooper's coach was one of the coaches and several N KY players participated and played well.

I ran into Coach Flesch and Coach Wainscott from Cooper on Saturday night when they got back from coaching the game, along with Coach McDonald who also coached in the game. They said it was great, the game was fun to watch with all of the talent on display, they really enjoyed coaching the game. I think they said the East team that they coached won 5 or 6 to 1 which to me was kind of a suprise. They said all of the players from NKY that were nominated for first or second team were there and that they all played well. They also said the East won the honorable mention game but that only Adam Snow from Cooper was there from NKY. Sounds like NKY represented well, congrats to all of the NKY boys.

I agree with the comments about both of the boys matches, I also caught some the second girls match, it appeared to be about the same.

 

It was great to watch some high quality soccer on both sides Saturday, from what I can tell, the boys all seemed to really enjoy themselves. There were numerous times that you could hear several compliments being given out after a good play, regardless of the squad that they were playing on... just a lot of good soccer and tons of mutual respect on display.

 

I was privy to a conversation afterwards in which a couple of the boys were talking about wanting to do what it takes to make sure they were selected next season, all so they could participate in the same event next year.... one also mentioned that playing "in this" was so worth the 2 hour drive.
