Because I'm a little tired of the dead horse being beat in the middle schoolers playing up thread and because it is November, Thanksgiving month, I thought I would start, what I hope to be, a pretty interesting thread.

 

One evening not too long ago, my wife and I were counting the coaches our oldest daughter had played for since her first season way back in 1st grade. As we began counting rec league coaches, competitive team coaches, school coaches, AAU coaches, we began to be overwhelmed at how many people had been a part of our daughters development as a player and a person. Most we remembered by name, and some we took some time to remember funny stories or quirks about them, but all in all, we were overwhelmed with thankfulness. We had never done that before. What a blessing to take inventory on how many people had given there time and talent, with no payment from us. The count as of today is at 22 including head coaches, assistant coaches, volunteers and myself. (Pretty cool to be the same number as Lauren Hill)

 

22 of them and counting...and to all of them, I am grateful. When I watch my daughter play, I can see things that many of them have contributed. It's pretty cool.

 

Here is the challenge...count all the coaches in your significant players life. All of them. The ones you liked, the ones you talked about behind their back, and the ones that you didn't like. The truth is they all meant something whether you see it or not so, the rule is you have to count them all. Then post the total number on here with a word of thanks for their efforts. I think many of you will be surprised at how many there have been. Perhaps we can have a thread without any complaining....Go!

Kidding aside...great topic! This may take me awhile! And here's the bad thing about what your post made me do...all the bad ones come to mind first and that is pathetic. But I think it's human nature. I always tell people, very few people fill out the comment card at a restaurant where they received good service.

This is so true. In my business, it seems many times if you make a person mad, they tell 10. If you make someone happy, they could tell one. Definitely human nature.

 

Too funny on the first part. I guess I had to draw line somewhere, but shoot, I'll give you a big thanks anyway! It certainly was very helpful that the old GameTime crew was getting harder and harder to beat. In fact, I do remember leaving a Scott Co gym pretty angry after a Game Time victory. There's no doubt them getting better helped make their opponents get better! I'm still leaving it at 22 though...Lauren Hill is a hero!

Wow! So, when I read 22 I thought man that's a lot! But after I sat down and thought about all the GREAT talented folks that have been involved with the helping my daughter from elementary, upward, AAU and training to become the skilled player she is I kept on counting and counting. Our number ended with 32. This was a fun activity to do and made me very thankful for all their time and effort. So, I am very thankful for all the time that they put into helping my daughter chase her dream and make her the player she is today. I hope that number keeps on climbing b/c everyone has something to offer and sometimes it's the same thing that is taught but someone might say it a different way that makes it click.

32 is awesome! I was the same way...I never would have thought it was that many until I counted them. It certainly adds up over the years.

Great topic!! As a coach this makes me want to go back and try to count the players. It will be a big challenge but I think it will be fun and bring back some great memories. Thanks for bringing this one up!!

This is a great question to ask yourself. Now you have me thinking about the different people that have touched my kids in their athletic routes so far. Thank you for bringing this up, and I will for sure get on that!

I'm counting 13 for my daughter. The low number is because she had a core of 3 through late elementary and middle school that had that group of girls. Sumrmakesplyrs is among that number.

Hadn't thought about it, but it is true that many times there will be a coach or coaches that stick with a group of kids as they go through elementary and middle school. You can surely appreciate their consistency and you could almost count the different seasons as different people. Point is...it still adds up.

 

And if sumrmakesplyrs (that is horrible trying to spell) is one of them, then your actually at 12.5.... cause that one is not all there. :no: :lol2:

I dunno....I am not so sure your memory would hold out. God knows, it ain't no steel trap. Besides, you better have a lot of time and paper. That would be a tough one.
