3A: The Contenders

Featured Replies

Corbin never really moved the ball on Bell at any time during the game. All of their points in regulation came off really one big play on offense the other was setup by an interception. The score should have been 21-0 at one point in the game. But we all know the saying if's and but's. I hope Bell gets the chance to play Corbin again.

Corbin really didn't move the ball much the first half due to only having 3 possessions. They shot themselves in the foot on all 3, the first two due to holding penalties and the third when they lost a fumble inside the red zone. They scored on a long pass play on their first possession of the second half, would have scored on the 2nd possession if the Bell defender had not grabbed his arm as he was running by him, slowing him just enough that the ball was just off his fingertips, which resulted in Corbin's only 2nd half punt. The third possession ended in an INT the play after Corbin dropped the sure TD pass when Hopper again got behind the defense. The 4th ended in a TD after Corbin got the ball on the short field, only having to drive 30 yards to score. Their last possession in regulation came with 1 minute and change left, they gained good yardage on 1st down, only to have it called back on a holding penalty. They then decided to run the clock out and go to OT.

The Bell run defense was good, especially when Corbin tried to run the slow developing read the hole type plays, because the Bobcat LB's were very good at attacking those. Corbin's had much more success when they ran straight at the defense

I think Bell Co. should have thrown the ball earlier in the second half, especially after Corbin's best DB left the game injured in the 1Q and also due to the halftime adjustment Corbin made to stop the run. Bell Co. ran the ball to the left side around 90% of the time, which was also the side away from Corbin's best defensive player(Lambert).

Bell may need to work on that pick play they run on some of their pass patterns, it was way too obvious and had Coach Greer about to explode on the sideline.

He wasn't exploding over a pick play ask him what he was exploding about. It wasn't that at all. They weren't in the red zone in the first half maybe the 25 yard line I don't consider that the red zone.

He was yelling at the officials a little earlier than that about a pick play. On that 3rd down play in OT when Bell scored, one receiver just pancaked the Corbin DB in the endzone that was guarding the player who caught the TD pass. Coach Greer then called timeout and spent 2/3rds of the timeout nose to nose with the referee.

Corbin would have had a 1st down on the Bell Co. 18 yard line, which is where the RB lost the fumble.

If they happen to play again, I would expect Bell to give more safety help on Hopper, I don't think they realized how fast he is. Now that could possibly open up the center of the field for Corbin without the safety in there. Their MLB is very good, but I believe he is built more to stop the run game that trying to cover receivers in space.

The Bell Co. RB's taught Corbin a valuable lesson, good backs don't go down easily, so I expect Coach Greer to have them go back to some fundamental tackling drills. These two teams are pretty even, it would be very interesting to see who could make the better adjustments if they are lucky enough to meet again.

That is not what he was crying about ask him. If you knew the rules of the game that is not what he was crying about it was an illegal formation not a pick play watching to much college football. That is what he was crying about. He is good at it. Great game just hope the Bobcats make it back. If Gilbert comes back it will be different look for Corbin and Hopper. I think that Bell knew he was that fast.

Just saying, gchs, Wayne is probably a little better than you give them credit for.

That schedule is proving to be brutal.
