Bluegrass Showcase at Dunbar

Featured Replies

This may sound odd. But why is Dunbar playing in a showcase being held at Dunbar?

Two reasons.

1. When Fayette County/Dunbar was approached about hosting this event, Dunbar had already scheduled both of their pre season scrimmages. Tough to cancel out on an opponent like that.

2. Of all the teams participating in this event only 2 are eligible for Dunbar to play. KHSAA rules mandate that teams from Kentucky may only compete against teams that are members of a state athletic association. The majority of teams in this event are prep schools or not members of their states athletic association.

I believe the second reason/rule is an awful stance by the KHSAA. They preach this year in and year out yet when KY teams play a team that isn't a member of a state association they do not punish them in any way. All this does is cause schools money that could be made for hosting such teams and costs kids an opportunity to compete against the best competition. But it's all about the kids right?

they only do #2 due to insurance reasons, if you are attached to a state association, then you are covered by catastrophic insurance coverage, where if you are a prep school type team, then there is the possibility that they are not covered as much. That being said, the KHSAA doesn't sit & research who each team is playing, that expectation is levied on the coach & AD @ the respective member school.... BUT I can say that if someone out there is KHSAAland is jealous enough of you or your program, they will gladly drop a dime on you to the association, I've seen it happen & been on the receiving end of it before but it was unfounded.
