I know Lloyd schedule has not been tough but I think they should be in there somewhere. After this friday we will know for sure if they are a legit top ten or fifteen team.

I agree, a win puts the Juggs on the radar, a loss probably closes the book.

Unless they can make this a very competive game. If not, I agree, close the book.

Well you know having Walton Verona above Newport is just silly. Newport gets no credit for their SOS. As already posted on another thread, Newports opponents are 17-1 this year with that one loss being Walton to Newport. Newport lost in the final seconds against a top 10 3A school on the road that they had to travel to twice, they lost a very competitive game to a top 5 1A school that has mostly everyone back from a state finals team last year. The only game that they were dominated in is a better than average and I believe a top 10 5A team in Scott. I think Newport is better than NCC but I know they are better than Walton. Good news is, just like NCC, Newport is hitting the easy portion of their schedule. I think Newport wins out.

Not so fast, Newport won the first meeting and hats off to them for that. It is my opinion that Walton wins that game if Lattamore plays the second half. I look forward to seeing them in the playoffs then we will know for sure who is better. Hopefully they are able to meet again.

No one has more respect for Walton than I do but Newport is better, much better. Newport did everything they could to lose that game (3 turnovers and losing an onside kick) and still won by 2 scores. I realize one of your best players got hurt but Newport gave up some easy scores in that first half (Int returned to the 3 yard line). IMO, if that game were played again, the final score wouldn't be as close as the first game.

Newport should be in the top 15, they've played a tough schedule. If you're as high on Newport as you sound, that says a lot for Walton. To act like either team played a clean game is silly. Walton gave up the opening kickoff for a td, sailed a snap over the punter's head down 28-26 in the 4th quarter to set up the clinching score, on top of two drives that stalled inside the 10 yd line resulting in 0 pts. Latimore had over 100 yds in the 1st half not including a 50 yd kickoff return, that didn't produce points, and a 70 yd interception return that set up a score. That's 220 yds that didn't see a snap in the 2nd half. They're a different team with him on the field, and heat exhaustion won't be an issue in November. I hope to see a rematch and end speculation. Walton should cruise the next month, while Newport will face the Lloyd and NCC test. It will be very interesting to see how those four teams shake out, and if any are in the class of DeSales, Caldwell Co, or CAL.

Totally agree with this Newport was not the only one who squandered opportunities in this game. I hope this question gets settled on the field in the playoffs where it belongs. I do believe that LCA on the road will be challenging.
