I am getting pretty tired of these ties.

 

The evening turned out to be very pleasant though it was on the cool side--just like I like it.

 

SK had a young lady sing the National Anthem a capella and she did a marvelous job. Nice voice, on pitch, and without a lot of embellishment and runs that say, "Listen to me, ain't I good." I appreciated her effort.

 

THe game was a fairly exciting one with lots of back and forth. Boone was down 1-0 and then tied the score. SK got its second goal and it stayed that way for a while, but Boone fought back and scored a second goal off of a beautiful free kick by Lucas Wheeler that was headed into the goal by Dane Thamann. Bret Mayberry had Boone's other score after a pass up the side that he then dribbled over in front of the goal, there was a bit of a scramble for the ball, then he slammed it home. Several of Boone's JV saw their first varsity action as Boone is still down some players.

 

I was a little surprised when I arrived at the field and saw that both teams' fans were sitting in the section just under the press box. It is a fairly small area and we were somewhat intermingled. The SK fans and the Boone fans where I was sitting established a good rapport from the beginning. It was a pleasant experience, but, as someone said, a tie is like kissing your sister.

I agree on the ties.

Agree with the feelings on ties... I will also say that going to PK's is not a whole lot better.

 

I got to experience this last night in a very important match, although we came out on the winning side of things, I was reluctant to celebrate the win as I normally would. I found myself feeling more sympathetic toward the boys, and families, of the other team than enjoying our win. I know that this is the way it is in soccer, and accept that these are the rules, it is just hard to have an ending like this after watching dozens of boys play so hard for 90 minutes and then have to decide it in this manner.

I hate ties. I, like you yellow card, hate to see kids play a tremendous game for 90 minutes then decide it this way. I would rather see two 15 minute golden goal periods than the two 5 minute periods. If it is still tied after 110 minutes, then PK's would be warranted I guess, the kids cannot play all night! Still, I hate seeing games decided on penalties.
