Game Report: Tuscarawas Central Catholic 40 Zanesville Rosecrans 20

Featured Replies

On Thursday night in Zanesville Tuscarawas Central Catholic enter the stadium with a 2-0 record as a heavy favorite to defeat Zanesville Rosecrans 1-1.

Rosecrans would only dress 15 players tonight and when all was said and done every fan in the stadium would have to agree those 15 young men had no quit in them, even when the game was basically over heading into the final quarter.

The Saints found themselves in a third and 10 situation just :23 into the game. A completed pass from their talented quarterback, Hunter Striker to #25 Alex Milleman was good for 11-yards and moved the chains.

The Rosecrans defense would show a lot of determination as they stopped the Saints offense a short time later to keep the game scoreless.

With 9:08 showing on the scoreboard Michael Teater and Beau Beamer stuck Rosecrans #32 (not on either roster I have) for a two-yard loss, but a person foul called on #12

Shane Gardner of the Saints gave the Bishops a first down it took Gardner out of the game for the rest of the night.

#32 would be hit for a two-yard loss with 7:30 left in the opening quarter by Nick DelGallo for a two-yard loss on third and one.

The Bishops now faced a fourth and three at the 7:30 mark of the opening quarter and they decided to go for a 41-yard field goal. On trotted 5-6, 140 pound junior kicker Lane Dailey, who nailed the kick with ease, giving the home town team, a 3-0 lead. The drive lasted 8-plays while totaling 26 yards.

The Saints seemed to be awaken from the funk they were in by the ejection and then the field goal, because their offense needed just four plays to end a 64-yard drive. The scoring play was a fine looking play action pass play with Cade Cummings getting behind the Bishops secondary catching the beautifully thrown ball from Hunter Striker. The point after kick by #17 Erik Dahmen gave the Saints a, 7-3 lead, with at the 5:21 mark.

On the ensuing kickoff the Saints Bo Beamer recovered a onside kick to give the offense the ball again.

Just three seconds later Max Fragasse threw a halfback pass for a 42-yard gain to Cummings.

From there the Saints scored their 2nd touchdown of the game when(I believe) Striker scammered in from five-yards out. Dahmen made it, 14-3 with his point after kick. This drive took 2 plays and totaled 47-yards.

4:50 was left in the quarter after the score.

The Saints defense was all over Bishops quarterback Michael Fisher with 3:57 left in the quarter as Nick Gonano and Striker crunched him for a two-yard loss.

The Saints special team looked to have gotten a 68-yard punt return by, Fragasse but off setting penalties cancelled the score, with 3:32 still left in the quarter.

The Bishops defense came away with a pick when Fisher made a very nice play on a Striker pass, with 2:14 left in the quarter.

The Saints defense would take its turn at coming up big when John Serafini pounced on a fumbled ball, with 9:05 left in the first half. It appeared the running back never had a handle of the hand off.

Striker would hit Cummings for a long gain with 6:04 left on the clock. Cummings made a good run after the catch.

Striker would connect with Fragasse on a long touchdown pass but the seventh penalty of the game was called on the Saints negating the score, with 5:45 left on the clock.

Striker would brake a tackle or two on his way to a eight-yard gain, with 5:30 and change left on the clock.

The 66-yard, five-play drive came to a climax when Striker connected with Cummings for a 56-yard score. The point after kick increased the Saints lead to,21-3with 1:56 left in the half.

The Saints recovered another on-side kick on the ensuing kickoff.

With 30 second left in the half Dahmen just missed a 37-yard field goal.

The final score of the half came in the shape of a Striker to Fragasse 52-yard pass play. Dahmen missed the point after kick keeping the score, 27-3 Saints.

Just a minute and fifteen seconds in the 2nd half Parker Moore fumbled the ball and the Saints Justin Peltz made the recovery.

The Saints closed out their five play-55-yard drive with a Henry Vinci 2-yard run.

The point after kick made this a 34-3 contest at the 9:52 mark of the 2nd half.

With 7:43 left in the quarter #32 dropped a pass from Fisher, who made a really good throw for the Bishops.

The Saints converted a 3rd and 11 when Striker pitched it to Cummings, who made a solid run after the catch, with 4:47 showing on the clock.

The 7-play 51-yard drive came to an end when Striker connected with John Burley on a 12-yard touchdown pass. The point after kick was missed again leaving this a40-3 game.

With the game long decided the Bishops would show the crowd that they were not quitters as they would score three times in the final frame.

The first score was on a 37 yard kick by Daily, who I am sure Mount St. Joseph Lions will be looking at, amking this a, 40-6 contest.

The next score came on a long fumble recovery run by #32 and with the point after this was a, 40-13 game.

The final score came from Fisher to Daniel Clifford 27-yard score. The point after made the final score, 40-13.

Well I'll be! I never thought I'd see a post about my wife's alma mater. She graduated from Tuscarawas CC in 1983. Funny thing is, I recognize most of the last names of the TCC players. Next generation is doing what the previous did all these years later.

So what is your interest in a game between two teams from Eastern and NE Ohio?

I am just a fan, who travels all over the state to watch games.

I didn't read your forum name closely enough. At a glance I thought it said Newport Catholic Fan. Now I see it is Newark as in Newark, OH. Must be a transplant from Central OH.

I still live here in Ohio.

I do take in a few Kentucky games a season and a friend sends me all of the games on tape from thr Pike County area.

I am new to this forum (BluegrassPreps) and I figured it was all local people (NKY). Guess I was wrong.

Bluegrasspreps has fans and very knowledgable people from all over the state of Kentucky and beyond. Some way beyond, former Kentuckians and people that keep track of Kentucky teams. BGP also provides information, news and discussion for every team in the state of Kentucky.

Welcome to BGP, I hope you enjoy not only talking and learning about NKY teams, but teams from around the state.
