The 2014 preseason poll was released yesterday. The usual suspects sit at the top of the poll, but there was one thing that had me scratching my head. Villa Madonna, not ranked at all in the top 5 of their region poll, is ranked 4th in the state top 25 poll. Is there something the state poll voters know that the region poll voters don't? Or, is this just a screw up?

Villa being ranked that high is a mistake. Not sure how a mistake like that is made...

Even if it were supposed to be NewCath instead of the Wildcats, I still think someone made a boo-boo..

I was so shocked to see VM at #4 that I completely overlooked Henry County from the 8th at #6. Surely someone reviewed this before posting it online. If so, I want some of what they were having.

KVCA - how about when you don't get enough coaches' votes for the pre-season poll, you populate your poll with the 16 Regional winners and/or Regional runners-up. Will give you a better starting point.

AMEN!! Preseason polls are a waste in my opinion anyway. Sure the top teams are pretty obvious but after 1st & 2nd in Region its all up in the air. Clearly in this particular poll, the results are comical & appear to just be drawn at random out of a hat!! If KVCA wanted some legitimate results they should have placed the poll on BGP!!!

Poll updated as of this morning to remove the odd entries. However, a new KHSAA member I've never heard of makes an appearance at #20 in the state--DuPont Memorial??????? Never heard of them, but I hope they have a great season.

 

You know, people do screw up and some errors, typos, etc. are understandable. What makes you really look stupid is when you screw up, people call you on it, you make corrections, and then still screw it up.

Poll updated again.....original results posted. DuPont Memorial disappeared--short season I guess. So this has now been posted three times and is still wrong. I agree with the precious poster that preseason polls are usually worthless, but they should be believable. To be honest, any preseason poll that doesn't include at least the first 2-3 teams from the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 11th regions is unbelievable. Not to disparage any other regions, but I'd be safe to say that most district winners and runners-up in these regions could easily win other regions in the state.

Notre Dame shouldn't be #4, they should just have a question mark next to them because as of now, no one has any idea how they will fare against the other 9th region opponents and the rest of the state. As far as the rest of the top 25 goes, I can see the top 15 shifting around quite a bit as the season progresses, except for the top 3 (Mercy, Assumption, Sacred Heart).

That link you provided goes nowhere. The top 25 poll on the KVCA website as of this morning still has: Villa at #4, NDA at #5, Newport at #11, etc. It's still the same original poll. There's been a lot of talk about poll updates and polls being fixed, this is the only poll I've seen.

They should be the same but are not. Which one are we supposed to believe is correct? Probably neither. They also can't spell preseason.

under KVCA polls, there were 2 listed with one listed as "updated". The first has been recently removed. I wouldn't read that much into either poll as both are clearly wrong, one is just incredibly wrong. I wish someone more aware of the entire state's volleyball teams would create their own top 25 ranking.
