Clark managed just six hits off South Laurel pitcher Hagan Burns, who went the distance to get the win. Burns finished with five strikeouts and issued just one walk and was effective in the early innings against the Lady Cards.

 

“They kept us off stride really for five innings.” Puckett said. “We adjusted better after five (innings) but you have to get started earlier. Once we put the bat on the ball, they folded a little bit under some pressure and that gave us a chance to score some runs. If we could have done that earlier, it would have been a different game. We came on late and in games like this, you've got to start early.”

 

Clark catcher Erin Carrus had three of Clark's hits in the contest, including a RBI single in her final at-bat in the seventh inning. Clark scored its two runs in the final two innings.

 

 

Skye Skinner had an RBI single, while Kolbi Mitchell and Madison Norton each had a hit for Clark.

 

Lady Cardinals' pitcher Jenna Edwards went the distance for Clark and scattered seven hits. Edwards fanned six betters and walked just two.

 

 

South Laurel (32-8) advances to the quarterfinals while the Lady Cardinals play East Jessamine at noon today in the double-elimination tournament. Puckett said the Lady Cards have to look forward.

 

“You just have to forget about (the first loss),” he said. “We have to play the next game. You have a long road ahead in the loser's bracket, but it can be done. We've just got to go out, play every inning and every out.”
